I'd like a good way to have wireless rear speakers, but I am not sure the technology is there.

My new job is all google everything, its going to take awhile to get used to not doing the VPN/outlook thing.

That's pretty crazy, my team is currently taking over our VPN solutions as we switch away from RSA. It's such a big project, probably will last over a year.

What are you moving to?

My new gig has everything in the "cloud" because we are a cloud federation company. Eating their own dog food I guess. Its pretty interesting, you can definitely tell the difference between a company that believes in solutions like google and SFDC and ones that didnt and had no idea how to configure it to be user friendly.

Symantec Verisign, which utilizes a lot of "cloud" hosting, which was iffy for many of our upper management but Entrust just wasn't going to work for us.

Thoughts on this guy going that route? Seems to have decent reviews:

If you're looking for an upgrade from TV speakers, this will do it, but don't expect it to be anything special. But if all you're looking for is something better than stock TV speakers and no wires/easier set up then this would most likely work for you.

Ah, I forgot they bought them. Yeah we do both, we can do web SSO as a service or install it in house. Alot of companies are just buying it as a service if they are going to be integrating with 3rd party applications, or if you have a ton of remote users.

Has anyone else noticed that HDD prices are through the roof thanks to Taiwan being underwater? Estimates are that there will be a shortage of up to 90 million drives because of this.

if anyone here has a kindle do you mind answering a few very boring questions?

Also apparently there's software in almost every Android, Blackberry and Nokia phone that records and transmits almost everything you do on your phone.

where's my tinfoil...

Yeah, and the carriers and the vendor of the software are justifying it saying it doesn't track and transmit things like contents of text messages. It's on every iPhone for now, pre 4S, I believe.

It's just not right with Facebook getting that 20 year audit and things such as this for these smartphones. There needs to be more privacy laws that require these vendors to disclose what information these vendors have access to and prevent invasions of privacy. We will just hear how legislation is always behind technology though.

The problem is they can easily add that in the license/usage agreements, but they're so long and full of legalese that no one reads it.

So, even if they do track all my stuff, i'm pumped to receive my Droid Razr today. A whopping 1 cent I paid for it. It'll be my first android based device (apple whore for the last 4 years), so i'm excited to mess around with it all weekend.

Not if they make some of their monitoring activities illegal.

Ahh, I wanted to get that deal on Amazon, but Sprint kinda screwed me. When I signed up with them, they had the yearly upgrade program then they discontinued it before I got my first yearly upgrade. Then again, I'm not sure if that program would've applied to the sale on Amazon that day.

Yeah, and within a year or two every shopping center and mall is going to be able to use your RFID to tracak your movements and spending patterns. Outside of that there is going to be a universal user store that will collect every piece of information you put on the internet from your google, FB, aol etc account and will allow 3rd party companies to access it at their whim. Everytime you use FB to log into a web site like bestbuy.com it pulls all of your personal info as well as information about your friends. There is no privacy.

That's really the bottom line... unfortunately. No matter what we think can or can't be monitored, assuming that you have any sort of privacy is the wrong way of thinking.

I have the $79 Kindle as well as the Kindle Fire, and I just bought my mom a Kindle Touch for Christmas. What kind of questions do you have? So far we love them. The limited space on the Fire is an issue for plane flights or when you are not near wifi and want to watch movies, but I think I've found a solution for that.

Mostly that I got it as a gift and want to upload a book on it. But, if I register their email address on it, will they get an email saying "hey thanks for registering your kindle." Is there a sneaky way to load it up? Can I buy kindle books onto my computer and load it on there?

Assume you have no privacy, and do what you can be "be private". I.E. don't freely hand out personal information, lock down privacy settings on any website you're a part of, opt out of any optional items, etc.

Technology is changing what privacy once meant and what it is now...back before the technology existed to track these things, it wasn't a concern. Now that the technology exists, there is no putting it back in the box. It's out there now...so at this point the few things you can do to remain private you SHOULD do. So, when someone calls to verify any personal information with you, hang up. Nobody should EVER verify anything over the phone, unless it's a phone call YOU initiated yourself. And even then, there are certain questions they have no business asking today, even if you called them.

Create a "spam" mail account on gmail or some other free email system and use that email for any such things. Use an email like that for anything related to product registration, forums, etc...so if they do hack it/track it, they won't find much other than a bunch of garbage spam and other information you don't care about.

Everyone should have a LEAST 2 email addresses. A personal/private email you mostly use yourself and give to certain people. And s general use email for the rest of this garbage out there.

Does anyone with an Apple computer also have DirecTV's Whole Home DVR service? The technician is telling me it you cannot have Whole Home DVR service with an Apple computer running on your wireless network, which sounds ridiculous.

LOL, there is no way thats true.

The problem with DirecTV is they subcontract out their installation services. Now I have no problem with hispanic people whatsoever. The problem is, my dumbass does not speak spanish, and the technicians they have sent me speak limited english. So when the guy is trying to tell me this, it's not like he understands much english about wireless networks, routers, modems, etc.

I tried to explain this to his dispatcher, but she was just some twenty year old girl named Ashley that doesn't know either.

So of course, I had to call customer service, explain the issue to them, and now schedule ANOTHER technician to come out. And of course, what kind of computer you have has absolutely nothing to do with whether you can run Whole Home DVR service or not.

This will now be the 4th technician that will try to install this for me.

HP's webOS (formerly Palm's webOS) is being open sourced.

Thanks. I did this. I wasn't sure about payment thru amazon and delivery to the kindle, but it was all a lot easier and less connected than I thought. I was just worried about spoiling the surprise.

Apparently the inventor of Siri graduated from my high school 6 years ahead of me. Small world. He sold it to Apple for $200 million about a year and a half ago.

The founder of AMD went to my high school a long time ago.

ipad 2 Q. I'm oblivious, so don't laugh, but do you have to pay for the 3G network? I don't think I would need it with wifi in my house but was curious.

If you already have an iPhone with a 3G plan, can you apply it to that?
