Say hey, It's Kotsay

AL projected #3 hitters:

NY: Mark Teixeira

BOS: Victor Martinez

TB: Evan Longoria

BAL: Nick Markakis

TOR: Adam Lind

MIN: Joe Mauer

DET: Magglio Ordonez

KC: David DeJesus

CLE: Shin-Soo Choo

TEX: Josh Hamilton

ANA: Kendry Morales

OAK: Ryan Sweeney

SEA: Jose Lopez

Other than the A's and Royals, and to a lesser degree the Tigers and Mariners, every other AL team has a legitimate #3 hitter. Mark Kotsay? Sorry, no way to spin that into a positive. Ozzie better be talking out his ass on this one.

Um, I have a feeling that what ozzie could consider a success for kotsay at third would not match up with what reasonable production for batting third would be. If he's batting .280 with horrible power in that position i'm sure ozzie would keep him there.

You're sure about that, are you? So, you're saying that if Quentin is hitting close to .300, is getting on base, and has 6 or 7 HRs in April, Ozzie would still bat Kotsay third in your scenario? I really hope you know better than that.

I'm just hoping we can do what the 2009 Mariners did, only that 86 wins or whatever they had with great pitching and no hitting is good enough to win this division. Either that, or maybe we deal for a bat in July. No matter what order we bat these guys in, they still won't score runs (although significant AB's for Vizquel and hitting Kotsay 3rd ever would make it even worse obviously.)

Then this should never have come up in the first place.

I know.

We're not even in the same stratosphere as the '09 Mariners defensively. So forget about that. We're going to have to score some runs.

No, but I think it's going to be a solid defensive team. Teahen is scary, Quentin is a virtual unknown (but I figure somewhere between below average and average for him in RF), and PK has no range, but I imagine Jones will be solid in the outfield whenever he plays it, and Vizquel is still good too. But I like Rios, I actually like Pierre in LF (having no arm is scary, but he's a better baseball player, if you will, than Podsednik...he might not put up the numbers than Podsednik, but his speed and even slightly improved instincts will help make up for that), Ramirez is very solid, and I imagine Beckham should be pretty solid too.

I'd also say the White Sox pitching staff is far better than the Mariners' staff was last season. Felix trumps all, but 2-5 I'd say the Sox are far superior.

I actually thought PK was fairly solid defensively? Maybe he is dependable, but just can't get to much...

The Mariners also have the benefit of pitching in that park obviously.

He had his best defensive year of his entire career last season (hell I saw that even with out looking at statistic, just by eyes), so you are correct.

Do we call Beckham and CQ sure things to produce? No. They're high up in the lineup because it's the most sensible leap of faith to make. Everyone else is right behind em in being x-factors of varying shapes n' sizes.

Actually I am counting on those two as sure things. Isn't it safe to say if those two are not excellent this season, we're f***ed?

We could recover from either of those things going wrong...but it would either take everything else going right or it would take a solid trade for a middle of the order hitter.

His range isn't for much, but he digs the ball out of the dirt about as well as anyone in the game. As long as it isn't over his head, he is going to get it.

What was that site that predicts the ideal lineup for a team, and also predicts how many runs each lineup will warrant? Someone posted it back when the Twins picked up Thome, outlining how they will outscore us by like 90 runs with their 'ideal' lineup. I'd be interested to see what that site predicts for us in terms of run production with Kotsay batting third. Anyone help me out?
