AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!

What's encouraging is that the Sox scored 11 runs with a vomit-inducing lineup. Obviously Jones needs to play just about every day now, but Mark Kotsay should settle back on the bench, cross his legs, and cram a fistfull of sunflower seeds in his mouth. And Omar Vizquel should be a late inning defensive replacement...although I did like the Podsednik-esque "throw the bat at the ball" move.

Fully agree on Jones, Kotsay and Vizquel. It's so obvious to everyone but Ozzie. Hope he "gets it" sooner rather than later.

it's very nice to know we at least got a split up there for once, we usually get swept in the 4 game series up there early in the season.

For 500k Andruw is gonna give us some great value with the long ball. Even if thats all he does.

Agreed. It's way too early to say, but you have to wonder if KW isn't already looking to extend him. I have a feeling it won't be easy considering his agent.

He'd make a nice DH next season.

One can always hope that if he keeps this up he'll play his way into being a type B free agent.

extending him after 2 good games is really shortsighted.

Of course...if he were to stay healthy and you extended him after 2 games...then it could look really, really farsighted.

I think andruw jones is gonna be a good player for us. But he is not gonna be a type B after this season. Jones needs to be in the top 40% in these five categories (which will follow) over the past two seasons of play...and he will be no where close... no matter what he does this season. He only had 331 plate appearances, an average of .217, 60 rbi's, 17 homers, .323 obp. He would have to have a season like he had in 2000 to have a shot, which is not gonna happen.

* Group 1: first basemen, outfielders, and designated hitters

* Group 2: second basemen, third basemen, and shortstops

* Group 3: catchers

* Group 4: starters

* Group 5: relievers

Here are the stat categories used for each of the five position groups.

* 1B/OF/DH: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI

* 2B/3B/SS: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI, Fielding percentage, Total chances at designated position

* C: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI, Fielding percentage, Assists

* SP: Total games (total starts + 0.5 * total relief appearances), IP, Wins, W-L Percentage, ERA, Strikeouts

* RP: Total games (total relief appearances + 2 * total starts), IP (weighted slightly less than other categories), Wins + Saves, IP/H ratio, K/BB, ERA

I could really get used to this kind of run production...GO SOX!!

Let's look at the Type B free agent OF/DH types from last year for comparison.

Randy Winn, who put up a .671 OPS last year

Xavier Nady (missed all of last year)

Garret Anderson (.705 OPS last year)

Marlon Byrd

Mike Cameron

Brian Giles

Vlad Guerrero

Which is why I noted that it's way too early...

in addition to the fact that thursday nights people are more of a going out night.

I watched it a bar. It was glorious. Even Donny Lucy got a double.

I wasn't so worried about last night, he seemed on. But, clearly, getting men on base=good. I want to ride Andruw Jones hot streak. But so far so good. Let's continue it tomorrow.

Last night was Wednesday, though. :lol:
