Basically, Stoney said that if Colvin is going to be in the majors, he needs to be playing every day, and not being wasted as a bench player (which is something most Cubs fans would agree with, and what us Sox fans were talking about when the decision was made to bring Colvin up). Then Lou came back with the ever illogical "He isn't a coach, he doesn't know anything" response.

I like Lou.

I like the way Lou tries to stop talking about it, then continues on about Stone.

It's a classic interview.

I like Lou and Ozzie because they love the game and aren't afraid to stir s*** up.

I'm not sure how much plate discipline you learn putting up a 1.250 OPS in the minors because you've already proven you can hit big league pitching.

If they value Colvin in any way, then he would be starting in AAA like he should. They had him skip AAA entirely, just to sit on the bench. The sad part is, he is actually producing on the Cubs, and STILL does not get a sufficient amount of ABs.

Cause he has a good voice and good personality.

Lots of people (Dick Vitale) figured out you could make a lot of money broadcasting rather than being in the thick of the action on the field. It's easier and you are still involved in the sport and everybody loves an announcer, nobody loves the manager (except the month after winning it all). Aside from being a manager, it's kind of grunt work. Sandberg deserves credit for working up his way as a manager through the minors. He doesn't need the money.

I think since Seattle (in which he has 3 hall of famers), he has been a highly over-rated manager.

They have 5 guys - 2 of them (Soriano and Fukadome) are making a ton of money and have actually been hitting well this season, and Byrd is also hitting .328 in CF. In a perfect world, Colvin would get more consistent AB's, but, I don't think Lou can do much more than he's doing now, which is rotating him into the lineup.
