"Cheating" is about as far from an accurate description as I'd give. AJ didn't break a rule there. At worst, it was a very close play that AJ forced the ump to make a call on, and if you think Paul caught the ball cleanly (I'm still totally convinced the video is inconclusive), then it was a blown call.

Yes we can be objective. He made a smart play. He didn't cheat.

How many times do we see that happen anyway? I think it's pretty often, a guy comes anywhere close to trapping it and the batter forces the guy to throw to 1b just on the off chance they throw it away.

He actually took a step or two toward the dugout, then realized Paul didn't tag him out (which usually all catchers do when a ball hits or comes close to hitting the dirt to avoid confusion) That is more equivalent to A.J.'s I.Q. (and Eddings f*** up) than it is cheating. Hell if Crede doesn't get that hit (and Ozuna doesn't steal that base) Angels fans would never bring it up.

It would be in bad taste to boo or mock Konerko, Buehrle, Thornton, Rios, Quentin, Beckham, you know, the core of this team that has been great for us this season and in their careers....

 

but we are talking about Mark Kotsay! Mark F'ing Kotsay! He is only on this team because Ozzie likes him for some reason. He is no one special to this team. He can leave, and no one would be heartbroken. I doubt Kotsay jerseys are flying off the shelves. He is a nobody.

I'd embrace it. From what I understand, our team was probably the cleanest World Series winner overall in that decade. I don't think Boston fans care less that their two most dangerous hitters were cheaters.
