August 3, 201015 yr I wonder if there's anything left? He's a lefty power bat that could be had for almost nothing.
August 3, 201015 yr Are we that desperate? I doubt he'd even be an upgrade from Kotsay. Edited August 3, 201015 yr by Jordan4life
August 3, 201015 yr Hasn't played all year. Hip operated on twice since last major league AB. If he signed a minor league deal and went to Charlotte to get ready, I suppose it wouldn't hurt, but expecting anything out of him is a reach.
August 3, 201015 yr If I remember correctly, he's turned down a trade to the Sox in the past. KW always gets his player eventually.
August 4, 201015 yr QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) If I remember correctly, he's turned down a trade to the Sox in the past. KW always gets his player eventually. I don't recall exactly when it was, but I do recall that the Sox were well out of the playoff picture when he turned the trade down. I'm pretty sure it was late in 2004 after the wheels had fallen completely off the bus.
August 4, 201015 yr Author QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) I don't recall exactly when it was, but I do recall that the Sox were well out of the playoff picture when he turned the trade down. I'm pretty sure it was late in 2004 after the wheels had fallen completely off the bus. Well it's not like he has 30 MLB teams vying for his services this time around. I bet he'd be ecstatic if the Sox offered him a minor league deal right now.
August 4, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) I wonder if there's anything left? He's a lefty power bat that could be had for almost nothing. There's a reason he could be had for pretty much nothing.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Rosenthal saying we are interested in Delgado. Why?! Because even if he's only operating on 1 hip, he's still not worse than Kotsay.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) If it means getting rid of Kotsay, yes. At this point in his career I'd expect Kotsay-like numbers.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) At this point in his career I'd expect Kotsay-like numbers. It's hard to have a .640 OPS. It really is.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) It's hard to have a .640 OPS. It really is. Just ask Dan Haren.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Just ask Dan Haren. Dan Haren was killing the ball, he had a .390 something wOBA.
August 5, 201015 yr Author I heard on Mulley and Hanley this morning that Delgado not only wants to play for a contending team, but he wants guaranteed playing time too.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) he wants guaranteed playing time too. I'm not sure how you guarantee playing time to a guy who might not be able to swing a bat any more.
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) I heard on Mulley and Hanley this morning that Delgado not only wants to play for a contending team, but he wants guaranteed playing time too. We could guarantee that he would play some time...
August 5, 201015 yr Any realistic chance he can even be productive at this point?? He has been off for how long now?
August 5, 201015 yr Per Mark Gonzalez: Guillen said KW hasn't spoken to him about C Delgado, surprised to even hear his name
August 5, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I heard on Mulley and Hanley this morning that Delgado not only wants to play for a contending team, but he wants guaranteed playing time too. He'd be lucky to play for a team that's out of it, let alone a contender. He's got to show he can hit in the minors and is ready before a team will or should commit to him.
