When Uribe gets hot he can be very productive. It looks like he is. Gotta get him in the lineup. He may win them the Series. I still root for him and Rowand individually although I would like Texas to win.

Miss the glove and arm on him... man he was fun to watch!

I root for him more than Rowand and Thome. I didn't even know Rowand had been benched all year. He's a funny guy. At the same time, when he's hot, he's great, when he's not hot, you wish a pitcher could bat for him.

 

Either way, I think he's still a super sub.

I love Uribe.

The Phils are my 1A, but I didn't feel anywhere near bad when the Giants took care of them in the NLCS. I just find myself liking this Giants team- partly because of him (though not neccesarily Rowand). Uribe was one of my favorites in his time here and will probably end up being one of my favorite Sox overall. The fairly significant role he's had in the Giants winning since the 'CS makes it great to watch.

I wish we still had Uribe in our lineup.

I miss him more than anybody we've gotten rid of to be honest with you. Sure he'd drive you nuts with his plate discipline sometimes...but like many have said...when he's hot he can carry you. Plus...one of the best glove men we've ever had. And why did we let him go again?!? What did he sign with SF for last year $500K?!? F-me! I'll always root for Juan. Easily one of my all-time favs! HAHAHAAAA...and as I type this he knocks in a run!!! LOVE YOU JUAN!!!

Im happy for him. He is what he is, a plus defender, but a free swinger and streaky hitter. I feel no regrets though that he is not with this team anymore.

Thats because watching him hit was maddening. The Juan Uribe love is revisionist history. Most people were driven nuts watching him swing at everything and spin around. Dick Allen was probably one of the few true blue Uribe supporters when he was on the team. Juan Uribe played wonderful defense and played hard, but watching him hit ooh god. He had some good pop thats about all I can say.

 

Juan being gone allowed for Gordon Beckham to come up in 2009. If you think for a minute that Beckham would of been promoted last year with Uribe on the team I think you are dreaming.

 

His hitting stats for the year are okay, nothing real eye popping for the year. His stance and how he loads are completely changed though. If anything its keeping him quieter so he isnt spinning out of control as much. He is having a great post season. Great for him.

He would completely disappear for like 5 weeks at a time while he flailed wildly at strike 3 on a pitch headed directly towards his head. Then get ridiculously hot and hit a barrage of homers for 2 weeks and then disappear again. I loved him before his streaks got too extreme (and 2005 came before that). After that I really couldn't tolerate it for much longer. Then he left for the NL, and presumably stopped being so streaky, or at least his hot streaks would come more often or whatever, but he was much better than he was when he left the Sox.

Would that really have been a bad thing?!? Gordon is absolutely CLUELESS at the plate right now. Maybe he was rushed just a tad...had some success...and now he struggles. Who knows... All I know is Juan is a pretty valuable asset to have. Might drive you nuts at times...but others is money. Just sayin...

Yes actually it would be a bad thing.

 

Beckham hit well in 2009 coming up with very little minor league time. He struggled like mad in the first half and then really settled in the second half. His second half numbers of .310Ba/.380OBP/.497SLG with a .877OPS is hardly struggling.

 

I rather have a young Beckham with more potential for the cheap than Uribe.

Uribe was the site's main whipping boy for all of 2007 and 2008 and while I didn't come here much in 2006, he probably drove people crazy then too. I think only Kotsay has been b****ed about more.
