December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) Not to pile on Linebrink, but he was godawful. Bye bye. Hope you are successful in the NL with the Braves. Can't think of a Sox pitcher who was as bad as Linebrink. Well, yes I can, but he was awful. From a dollar-for-inning perspective, there sure haven't been many.
December 3, 201015 yr good deal, get rid of Linebrink who would be nothing more than an innings eater and get AJs money for him. Obviously I want the Sox to re-up with PK, but the fact that Dunn and AJ deferred money leads me to think KW told them they will do the best they can to with that money to ink PK, if not they'll go after another solid 1b. PK would be ideal, but it's not a perfect world, I would still be pleased if Sox bring in somebody else to play 1b
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (bobryansson @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Get TCQ a headshrink- (I think I heard.) Check. Any chance that the shrink would take on Beckham too?
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (TheBigHurtShallRiseAgain @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) The Atlanta Braves have traded Minor League pitcher Kyle Cofield to the Chicago White Sox, according to FOXSports’ Jon Paul Morosi. Morosi adds that the right-handed pitcher was the No. 24 prospect in the Braves’ organization at the beginning of the 2010 season. He had a 4.47 ERA in 58 1/3 innings pitched mostly at Double-A. Cofield was on the Braves 40-man roster. The first official member of the 2011 Birmingham Barons bullpen.
December 3, 201015 yr This was interesting news, but between his salary and Jenks being non-tendered and signing AJP for about 2M less I can now see where the Dunn signing came from. It will be fun to see where the bullpen goes and how things develop from here. I am just waiting for Konerko to sign and I'll be fine.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) The first official member of the 2011 Birmingham Barons bullpen. Bet they run him in Charlotte.
December 3, 201015 yr KW is on a roll. If we could re-sign PK and Putz and add another pen arm, I'd be ecstatic.
December 3, 201015 yr Braves are getting more than $2.5 mill from #White Sox to offset Linebrink's $5.5 mill salary, not the previously reported $1.5 mill via
December 3, 201015 yr Merkin said the $2M saved on Linebrink pays for AJ so they could be getting $3.5M
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) Merkin said the $2M saved on Linebrink pays for AJ so they could be getting $3.5M Damnit. Cutting $4M was SUCH a steal. Dropping $2M is a still good, but a little letdown.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Another million or so is pretty immaterial in the grand scheme of things. Just to be clear from earlier Tweet, White Sox saved $2 million off the $5.5 million owed to Linebrink in the trade. So you can do the math - Scott Merkin
December 3, 201015 yr Dunn. AJ. Better than even odds on PK. Now Linebrink, and if there's a benevolent deity (other than JR), Teahen. There has been more sanity displayed in the last few days by the FO than during last year's entire offseason. Guess it's a good argument for requiring the GM and the manager to stick to their respective job descriptions. Finding a "spare" $20-30million doesn't hurt either. Don't stop now, boys!
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) This. This is glorious news. Love the sig. I wonder who will be SoxTalk's whipping boy next year? Has to be Teahen.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Love the sig. I wonder who will be SoxTalk's whipping boy next year? Has to be Teahen. Thanks. As for Teahen... yes.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Love the sig. I wonder who will be SoxTalk's whipping boy next year? Has to be Teahen. He's always been my guy. Peahen(a typo, but I kind of like it) avoided the honor last year due to missing many weeks with a broken thumb. Had he played the entire season he would have easily given Kotsay and Linebrink (who was so bad it seemed like he only pitched in games that were out of reach one way or the other) a solid run for the honor. No, if KW finds a way to dump Peahen, next year someone is going to have to step up and EARN the title. Edited December 3, 201015 yr by 11and1
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) KW is on a roll. If we could re-sign PK and Putz and add another pen arm, I'd be ecstatic. Putz is on his way, and yes I think he will get a chance to close.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) Putz is on his way, and yes I think he will get a chance to close. Hope you're right on both counts.
December 3, 201015 yr If they're deferring cash til next year, it means that Buehrle may be going bye-bye after this season.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) If they're deferring cash til next year, it means that Buehrle may be going bye-bye after this season. I was just saying that to my friend over on facebook chat. All signs point this way.
December 3, 201015 yr The $3.5M we seem to be sending to Atlanta offsets the money we're getting for the Dodgers this season for Pierre. We're currently at $92.55M.
December 3, 201015 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) If they're deferring cash til next year, it means that Buehrle may be going bye-bye after this season. Buehrle has trade value due to the fact that if he is traded, the fifth year of his contract vests, I think he is gone this year.
