Cowley's swung and missed more than Adam Dunn in the last year.

Good points brought up regarding Cowley. Unless I see some other insiders with similar info I'll choose to ignore his comment.

If we're giving PK $15m, it'd better only be for 2 years.

I'd say odds are pretty nill that they would give Konerko $15M even for one year. As much as we all love the guy he just ain't worth that, especially with how up and down his career has been.

I really wish they would call his bluff and tell him to have fun playing in Baltimore.

PK did not earn his money for most of his last contract, and now he wants an increase.

Walk away.

Someone made a great point on the radio. If this was the offseason after 2009, D. Lee would be getting the big multi-year deal and Konerko would be the one who'd be lucky to get a multi-year deal for 6-8 million.

I think it is about time to take the draft picks, and just sign D. Lee and a top RP.

I wonder what it would take to get D. Lee and Scott Downs??

I just want some kind of info that states Lee might even be open to playing for us.

Just let this play out. Kenny Willams isnt going to miss out on guys he wants on the teams so will find out one way or another I am sure soon.

The 13 or so million it would take to sign Konerko.

Herm Schneider and D Lee would be a nice match for a nice healthy and productive season for 2011.

And Jeter would have gotten the ARod treatment. Timing is a huge part of making huge money.

Someone mentioned earlier that JR wouldn't necessarily spend the money he is prepared to spend on Paulie on others. Normally, I would say this is very true, but because you had a couple of guys defer money, I would imagine they will probably spend it this offseaon if Paulie doesn't come back.

Tell me about it. It's just assumed around here that Lee is a foregone conclusion if we don't sign PK.

Heard that Yankees are out on type A relievers as they want to keep the picks. One less suitor.

I don't have any, just saying that it might be time to move on from PK, and Lee is an obvious choice IMO.

that's my feeling about it too, you can't ask Dunn and AJ to defer money for one player, it had to be something like they would go balls to the walls to resign PK but if it didn't work out they would use the money elsewhere.

I'm not sure why people are so impatient on this Konerko thing, it's not even mid-December yet. Nobody's mentioned Derek Lee's name but us so it's not like Plan B is in danger of getting away just yet. If it wasn't time to give up on Konerko a few weeks ago, it's not time now.

My guess is you would have to give Downs something similar to what we gave Linebrink 3 years ago. 4/18ish?

I'm not impatient. I just find the entire notion ridiculous.

The guy is a solid player at a position full of them coming off a huge year at the age of 34. He deserves a nice contract. 2/$20 maybe. But this 3/$45 crap is ridiculous.

To be fair Padres are looking for 1B, and Lee has been mentioned in connection with them. Played for them a while back.

Right, well you were one of those who was all about moving on a while ago, too, so you're good :gosoxretro:

I agree. Its not like all the other options are flying off the board.

There are options that are coming off the board though.

If we pass on PK, and sign a guy to a more economically responsible contract, it's possible there is money left over to spend on other pieces. Those are the pieces you risk losing out on.
