January 19, 201115 yr These are the categories that we've used in the past: The Righty (GOP)/Lefty (DEM)/The Uniter (Moderate) awards Rookie of the Year Post of the Year Thread of the year Poster of the year Minor League Scouting Info Award Funniest Poster (The Critic Award) Best Visual Artist Most likely to get Flamed Best Drunk Poster Drinking Buddy Award Most Underrated Poster Poster You Wished Posted More Optimist Pessimist "Saber" award for stats knowledge Any additional suggestions to "spice" it up?
January 20, 201115 yr Should we have some sort of "Saber" award for statistical knowledge/contributions to conversations?
January 20, 201115 yr QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Should we have some sort of "Saber" award for statistical knowledge/contributions to conversations? Yes.
January 29, 201115 yr I'm pretty amazed at how worldly well-traveled some of the Soxtalkers are. Working overseas, a year studying abroad, just up and heading off somewhere, etc. I think we need to add a SoxTalk Travel Gnome award.

January 29, 201115 yr Author I like your ideas, but we want to keep it as positive as possible so, some of those wouldn't really work.
January 29, 201115 yr My idea is I want to win one. Almost 10 years on this board and jack squat to show for it. I would say I'm the Susan Lucci of Soxtalk, but I don't even think I've been nominated for anything.... An Honorary Pandering Award perhaps?
January 29, 201115 yr Lucci has won a daytime emmy in her career. It's a a common misperception that she never has due to all of her nominations. Btw, it's pretty annoying that the spell check doesn't acknowledge the fact that misperception is a word. Too many of these awards are locks to have the same people nominated... the same people winning... year in, year out. The Righty (GOP)/Lefty (DEM)/The Uniter (Moderate) awards Rookie of the Year Post of the Year Thread of the year I'm don't read the nonsense that takes place in the filibuster, so those awards are meaningless to me. The following three clearly change yearly. Other than those, i'm pretty sure i could predict 9 of the following 12 winners correctly.

Just wanted to throw out some brainstorm suggestions to bounce around and chew on. One idea that is not so good, can sometimes spark an idea in a totally different direction that maybe wasn't even thought of yet. Sounds pretty cool what you are putting together. Looking forward to the results when it is finished and everything is tallied up! Looks like something that a lot of painstaking effort is going to be done on your part just in doing the backlogging research to come up with winners for these categories, let alone adding even more. Good luck!

January 29, 201115 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) Write the site's 3 millionth post. I'm going for b2b "Most likely to be flamed" awards with my stance in the LeBron thread. I can't believe I made that asshat a billboard.
January 29, 201115 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 04:07 AM) So.....you are saying these awards are like Gold Glove awards? Does that mean Jeter will sweep the show? Pretty much. Heads or Wite will win the best drunk poster award [though I clearly deserved it over both of them for '09]. Critic will win the funniest award. Fathom will probably win the pessimist award [though I'm sure I'll get plenty of votes for this one]. Kalapse will win poster of the year. There's not a whole lot of drama with Soxtalk awards.

January 29, 201115 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Dude, it's a message board. Why on Earth would there be drama? I didn't mean drama in a negative way. I meant as far as suspense goes. I don't give a s*** about these awards. But qwerty was right. You can pretty much predict every single one of them that doesn't require a different winner [i.e. the rookie of the year award]. Edited January 29, 201115 yr by Jordan4life
