Coffee Talk

Amazingly, that's probably as much caffeine as 2-3 cups of coffee or pop.

I'm strange (although it should be the exact opposite) because I don't need any artificial things to give me energy. The only reason I eat or drink anything is because I like the taste. I can wake up and get right to business.

It is the exact opposite. People have conditioned their bodies to react to certain stimuli and their bodies become accustomed to it. You've just never conditioned your body to be accustomed to caffeine, and so it doesn't expect or desire any.

I meant that I'm strange in comparison to other people because everyone seems to "need" that extra boost.

As of this point, caffeine does nothing for me (I can sleep after drinking coke or tea or whatever).

However, I hate the taste of coffee. Only kind I can drink are those horrible for you frozen coffee drinks at starbucks/etc, which I might have once a year when someone gives me a starbucks gift certificate which I have no use for.

But I love tea. I'll drink it throughout the morning. A nice black or earl gray or even green tea and unsweetened ice tea too for lunch/etc. Pretty much tea replaced soda in my diet and since I don't put any sweetners in it and never put sugar in it I figure its about as good as it gets (antioxidants, some cafeine, but not a ton, and no sugar/artificial stuff).

I didn't really start getting used to it/needing it all that often until I got to grad school. I'd drink coffee when I had homework to do or a late night exam to study for, but it wasn't until I was 23-24 that I started having a cup in the morning, and 27 when I started adding a cup or two of tea to the ritual during the day.

It doesn't seem to have much of an effect on me. It definitely wouldn't help me to stay up studying.

A healthy dose of caffeine in the morning is known to help boost metabolism.

I worked the 3rd shift for over 20 years and took care of my kids in the day (at least when they were little). 18 to 20 hour days were the norm. But I was only human. Once in awhile my wife would come home from work and find me sleeping on the living room floor surrounded by kids and toys. That was rare though. I got used to drinking so much Mt. Dew and/or coffee it was ridiculous. Even now, I can get by with very little sleep and be just fine. But, when I want to sleep all the caffeine in the world (so to speak) isn't going to keep me from going to sleep. I can lay down and be asleep within a minute.

I actually saw a little kid (7 or 8ish?) drinking coffee yesterday. Kinda surprised me.

My kids have had small sips of their grandparent's coffee here and there but that's about it. Most everyone I know didn't start drinking it until high school at the earliest.

Was it this kid?

They may be trying a little self medication for ADD or ADHD. Many people report it helping.

I can't imagine giving caffeine to somebody that is already hyperactive and can't sit down or focus on something for very long.

Actually the drugs they give are stimulants. I was surprised as well. Focusing is an active process.

Nothing special, a $20 Target buy IIRC

I read that you need a burr grinder to get a coarse grind for a french press, but that all seems expensive.

This is my take on coffee...

Fun little article on coffee...

Btw, my parents drink upwards of 20 cups of coffee apiece each day... which is down from just a couple years ago.

Don't let great be the enemy of good. I've even used regular drip grind and it was better than using a drip coffee maker, so that's what I did.
