April 1, 201115 yr QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Great first game. Ohman, Pena and Lillibridge suck. Nothing we didn't already know! Pena put two runners on, but Sale came in and allowed them to score.
April 1, 201115 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Pena put two runners on, but Sale came in and allowed them to score. Thanks to Lastings.
April 1, 201115 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Pena put two runners on, but Sale came in and allowed them to score. So don't put those 2 runners on in under an inning.
April 1, 201115 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Pena put two runners on, but Sale came in and allowed them to score. Milledge allowed them to score. That's the only thing of concern for me from this game is Lastings looks absolutely, completely lost in the field. Besides that, because of the gigantic lead what Ohman did really meant nothing.
April 2, 201115 yr When we went up 14-0 I was literally laughing. Like: well, looks like we got the offense we paid for. Not laughing so much when they managed to get 10 on the board, when our pitching is supposed to be elite. Oh well, Opening Day. I'll take it.
April 2, 201115 yr Better get used to bashing our way to victory. Could be a very fun year. Lots of high scoring games for the opponents too!

I agree in the games that Humber pitches. I'm optimistic the top 4 (though Jackson scares the s*** out of me), will keep us in most games. Today was, IMO, an outlier. At least from the pitching side. I expect the offense to be potent all year long.
April 2, 201115 yr I posted this in the chat, but Beckham didn't have his first 3 hit game until July 11th last year. And Alexei didn't look absolutely terrible. To me, those are the biggest pluses so far. Quentin looking good was nice too I suppose. Oh, and the pitching doesn't concern me at all. They were throwing batting practice to try and get the game over with. With a 14 run lead, there's no point in dicking around, trying to make the perfect pitch. Just need to make sure that when it's a 1 run lead, they are ready.

Obviously it's the first game so it's not like he's overworked or anything but in a game like that there should never be a reason where your closer should have to loosen up.

April 2, 201115 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Will Ohman: Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. Will Ohman is well positioned to win the Soxtalk Linebrink award.
April 2, 201115 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Will Ohman: Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. If he's used correctly he'll be fine. That being said, this is Ozzie Guillen we're talking about, so yes, be afraid.
April 2, 201115 yr Opening Day win is Opening Day win. I'll take it. But to have a 14-0 lead turn into a 15-10 final? My god. I'm in chicago this week and from talking to people, I think Oz is at the stage his team has to produce big time first half of the year or he's gone. I still love him regardless, but I'm sensing many think he is a problem. Ohman? Who decided to sign that guy? Wow.

He wasn't extended through next year to get fired if the team underachieves for a few months. Ozzie will have to quit before his contract runs out for him not to be here. April 2, 201115 yr Before we go to banishing Ohman to the deepest bowels of hell, consider some perspective here. It's the first game out of Spring Training, so these guys aren't in perfect shape yet. The Sox were up like 14-4 when he came in the game, so he had a little wiggle room. The Indians were a bit pissed that they were getting schooled as badly as they were and still had that Opening Day adrenaline flowing. Oh, and the main point I was trying to get at - Matt Thornton's second career game in a White Sox uniform - 2.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K. There's obviously more of a track record on Will Ohman, but give him more than 1 game to dig his own grave. Make it 3 or 4 atleast, please.

He's human diesel fuel. Now if you keep him away from all things right-handed and put him in low-leverage situations you might have a chance. Otherwise, it's bombs away. April 2, 201115 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 12:58 AM) Nope. I saw this dude with the Cubs. He's human diesel fuel. Now if you keep him away from all things right-handed and put him in low-leverage situations you might have a chance. Otherwise, it's bombs away. The last time he played for the Cubs, Darin Erstad was wearing a White Sox uniform. Pitchers change and improve. He's not Mariano, but as a 5th reliever, he's fine. Good strikeout rate, generally limits home runs I would say his career .208/.298/.348/.646 against lefties says he's capable. It's not exactly death on them, but it's still pretty damn good, and good enough that he can get them out. The .264/.360/.400 that he's thrown against righties is a little more worrisome, so yes, he absolutely needs to stay away from right handed hitters.
April 2, 201115 yr lolz.. it was 14-0 in the 4th inning in freezing Cleveland, you're kidding yourself if you think any of the guys on our team wanted to be out there anymore.. no reason to be worried about the pitching, how could anyone be on point when the games a laugher like that? They'll be fine..

He's basically the mirror image of Scott Linebrink, one lefty on righty. You may get something out of him if you use him as a LOOGY. Expecting much else is trouble, but it appears the Sox aren't counting on him for a whole lot. Yesterday was garbage time so maybe he got some runs out of his system.
April 2, 201115 yr QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Beckham looks big to me. Dude put on some muscle (natural or otherwise). He supposedly added 10 pounds of muscle in the offseason.
