That is fine in baseball in the US. However in Japan they wouldn't like that play. They slide to the bag. The "as long as his hand can reach the bag, it's ok" is a distinctly US version of baseball.

"I'm used to the Japanese rules so it's the slider's fault" isn't exactly a quality defense.

That had to come up during spring training, right?

 

Gardy said that they had been working with Nishi all spring with turning the double play

Slide was just fine. Gardy and even Nishioka said as much. Swish said he felt terrible, not too much to complain about there.

4-6 weeks. All things considered, not that bad.
