Soxtalk hits 5000 members!

Featured Replies

So I noticed we are up to 4694 registered members at Soxtalk. I thought it might be interesting to throw a contest out there to see who could guess the date that we register member #5000. Guess a date in this thread. Winner receives absolutely nothing but some half-hearted congratulations from fellow Soxtalkers.

It seems crazy thinking back to the early days that we could be looking at having 5000 people who have signed up for this site. Then again, it is going on 9 years old now.

Also we haven't really done this in a long time, but if you have a friend that you think might enjoy the site, go ahead and pass it on to them. We could always use the new blood and fresh opinions. Also you can join the Soxtalk facebook page, which is kind of our backup plan for whenver Soxtalk crashes, which thankfully isn't as often as it used to be.

Just curious...how many regular posters do we have? Not trying to be negative, just trying to put in perspective how many "regulars" we have here.

That is probably the most impressive thing about this site. We have a pretty strong regular base of posters. A large number of members that post have exceeded 1000 posts.

That would be 308 members with > 1000 posts.

Soxtalk 5000? You mean this thread isn't about a newly designed robot that says things like "Fire Greg Walker!" and "Corpseball!" while dropping routine fly balls?

I know vBulletin software has an "active users" tracking feature that you can set to tell you how many members you have that have at least logged in in the last xx days. It can also show you registrations and post volume by month. Not sure if IP.Board has something like that?

I would have guessed around 250 regular users, so the 300 figure seems about right to me. I like it the way it is. Not too many people clogging up the board with needless posts and such. It seems like we get a lot of lurkers who are just there for the information, which is also a good thing.

I enjoy the amount of regulars here.

The best thing about this board is still the non-Baseball forums. It doesn't die with baseball season.

I glanced at your banner (if that's what it's called), and thought that Frank's poor daughter looks just like him. :lolhitting

And the lurkers include many members of the local (and sometimes national) sports media, in case you were curious.

I'm purely guessing here, but I'll bet the uniques count is at least 500 a day, probably closer to 1000 during the season. There is a very big unregistered readership, plus a very solid core of posters.

Forgot about that.

I believe this to be the case, but I want proof.

I ask any of these writers to release a column next week where the first letter of the first four sentences spell M-I-L-K.

Do it!

I'll toss in a prize if it will help the contest.

BTW to get this moving along, I am guessing opening day 2012.

No no, it has to be separate sentences. So, something like:

"Maybe the Sox will turn it around. In my opinion..."

I lurk...been lurking for the better part of 5 years. The reason is because I'm not as well versed as most of the regular posters as far as stats go. It can be a little intimidating sometimes, I know what I see and sometimes think about throwing my opinion out there but I don't want to be shot down by some stat I don't understand. I thoroughly enjoy everyone's comments and the sense of humor from a lot of the posters are just down right hilarious.

With all that being said, my guess is the first day of the winter meetings.

Also, for the sake of argument, my reasoning above is due to my own insecurities, I'm not accusing anyone of anything.

We all get shot down from time to time. Even me, and basically the entire board is in agreement that I'm the best poster here.

Might as well state your piece once in a while. You actually get to know some of the posters as if you interacted with them regularly in real life.

Yeah and if you get shotdown, so what. Its not like it hurts your life or something.
