Right now, Pena is getting used in 8th inning close games because we have a 6 man bullpen, with 3 lefties who can't be counted on. Pretty much, if we want an 8th inning pitcher, it's Crain right now, and he simply can't go every day; we need him when we have a tight lead to bridge to Santos.

 

I'd expect Jackson to slide into the role that Pena filled yesterday if he went to the pen.

Again, Pena shows up in close games by default. Crain is getting used heavily already, and the only other righty in the pen is the Closer.

 

The real problem is that the 2 lefties who used to be able to get out everyone (Thornton and Sale) can't get a righty out to save a life.
