They really don't. His career average is not good with runners on and I've always said with runners on I care about average more than everything else.

And people who followed the Reds completely disagree with those stats. Even the Reds announcer, Marty Brennamen said he was garbage in high leverage situations, and put up most of his numbers when the game didn't matter.

Don't forget that a MLB gm and countless other people talked about how lazy he is and has no passion for the game. It really is a perfect storm of a player slowing down and not having the work ethic to compensate for what he has lost.

 

 

1. Cincinnati fans couldn't wait for Dunn to get out of town. The Reds' radio announcers, Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley, rip him for his lack of work ethic on the air to this day.

 

2. I didn't like it during spring training when Dunn sort of bragged how he doesn't hit at all during the off-season. Said he was fine just picking it up in February. Might want to change that plan, Donkey.

 

3. It's obvious by looking at the guy he ain't in shape. He's got work to do or fans are going to really turn on him and he'll be getting booed more than he ever imagined.

Yep, huge inning here for him.

Historically he's a worse hitter with runners on. Why? Because quite frankly in high leverage situations he's just not very good (cause he has a majorly flawed swing and he's going to struggle even more when pitcher X is more focused due to the situation, e.g., runners on).

All I know is the sox just tied it up and on game cast during the break they showed Pheobe Cates getting out of the pool in Fast Times. That was a great last 5 minutes.

Pitchers perform better with runners on?

I'm indicating that good pitchers in high leverage situations are going to be out there more focused with a better plan of attack than the other way around. Often times pitchers don't hunker down until you are in a jam. That isn't to say they don't focus early on, but they don't go through as thorough of a plan of attack.
