July 17, 201114 yr An interesting thought... Carlos Marmol might be on the trading block, and the Sox have been shopping for a RH reliever quietly if you believe the rumors... Should Kenny call Hendry?

July 17, 201114 yr No.....and its funny to see that the Cubs actually want to trade players. Seems like they didnt want to trade anyone the other day.
July 17, 201114 yr As talented as he is, we have plenty of quality already in our pen, and Addison Reed isn't too far away. Not enough of a need to justify the likely high cost, IMO.
July 17, 201114 yr could you imagine the gamethread meltdown if Marmol walked the bases loaded on 13 pitches, then turned a 3-0 game into a 6-3 loss? It would be epic. Greg would be epic too
July 17, 201114 yr Bruney is a concern, since Pena doesn't exist anymore....and he was a bigger concern than Bruney, in all honesty. I'd put it at #10 on our shopping list. And even if we wanted to get Marmol, what in God's name would we have to give up? For a reliever that's getting more and more expensive (looking ahead)....when we just discarded Jenks to avoid that very same thing from happening. When we've got cost control over Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Ramirez, Santos, Sale and Beckham....that's one of the few positive lights in our payroll situation. Why we'd trade away Viciedo + Mitchell + Reed + Santiago for another closer is beyond me. If anyone should be going after Marmol, it's the Tigers or Twins.

It would be epic. Greg would be epic too Kevin Gregg almost managed that feat last night against the Indians before he was mercifully pulled by Showalter.
July 17, 201114 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) If anyone should be going after Marmol, it's the Tigers or Twins. I could see either of those possibilities, Twins especially, if they decide to be buyers. Where, as you say, it would be priority #10 for us, it's probably the number 1 issue for the Twins.
July 17, 201114 yr Have to at least try a low ball offer, but like others said, RP not our biggest need right now.
July 17, 201114 yr If we could get him for next to nothing, yes. But since that won't happen............NO!!
July 17, 201114 yr The Cubs probably think they can get a lot for Marmol. Maybe someone is desperate enough to oblige them, but I would hope it isn't the Sox. Edited July 17, 201114 yr by Swingandalongonetoleft
July 17, 201114 yr QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Whatever happened to Tony Pena? I think the team is trying to forget he ever existed.
July 18, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) An interesting thought... Paying a high price for what would be the 3rd man with as many holes as this team has is silly.
July 18, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) I think the team is trying to forget he ever existed. He will be in Charlotte on a rehab assignment in the immediate future.
