July 30, 201114 yr 7-29 isn't quite 14-2 To put that in perspective, the Red Sox would have to go 5-15 over the next 2-3 seasons head-to-head to equal our level of ineptitude in the face of the Amazon River Contagion/Quarantine Team.
July 30, 201114 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) 7-29 isn't quite 14-2 To put that in perspective, the Red Sox would have to go 5-15 over the next 2-3 seasons head-to-head to equal our level of ineptitude in the face of the Amazon River Contagion/Quarantine Team. Most White Sox fans probably don't even realize our streak vs. the Red Sox is that good, but they have no trouble reciting by memory how terrible we are vs. the Twins. I know you think they are different. The Red Sox are a much better team than the Twins, and it's very surprising we've had that level of success over 16 games vs. them.
July 30, 201114 yr They are different. We play the Twins 18 times per year and the Red Sox/Yankees 6-7 games per year usually.

I think most of us applaud the record vs. Boston but are appalled by our mark vs. Minnie. Another faceplant soon will be coming up vs. Minnie since we still don't have Viciedo.
July 30, 201114 yr Did AJ get enough love for last night's blast? If he doesn't hit that, we lose to Wakefield and everybody is sooo pissed. Nice bomb, AJ.
July 30, 201114 yr QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) I am sure I am going to take heat from Dick Allen on this, but isn't it a strike against Walker regarding the development of Beckham and Morel? I mean, BOTH of those guys came up hitting the ball with authority before Walk had a chance to get inside their head. I think people have a habit of forgetting what a big leap it is from the minors to the majors. It is also hard to ignore that there is a pattern under Walker of poor plate discipline.
July 30, 201114 yr QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) It is also hard to ignore that there is a pattern under Walker of poor plate discipline. How so? White sox: 29th out of 30 teams in strikeouts in 2011 29th out of 30 teams in strikeouts in 2010 25th out of 30 teams in 2009 22nd out of 30 teams in 2008 Hasn't been since 2007 that the Sox were in the top 10 in the league in strikeouts.
July 30, 201114 yr Poor plate discipline with RISP except for 2008. Very poor plate discipline against Minnesota (especially in the 2nd half) in nearly every important game.
July 30, 201114 yr Like in 2010 where we had the 2nd best average with RISP in baseball? 2009 when we were 13th? 2008 when we were 8th?
July 30, 201114 yr Is there any way to isolate the hitting with RISP just from that 26-5 streak? Versus the other 130 games? It certainly wasn't very consistent across the entire season...and certainly was missing in August/September. Can it be broken down on a monthly basis for 2010? And our on-base percentage hasn't been great either, since being 26 games over .500 at the 2006 ASB. Surely, we're in the bottom half for AL OBP on a consistent basis from July 2006 through today. I could care less if they ever beat the Twins if they win the division. Every pro sports team has an opponent that owns them. Not beating the Twins is always magnified because the Sox squander other opportunities where the games vs. the Twins become too important. They've repeated this pattern under two managers. The difference is we play the twins a lot more than we play the Red Sox.
