Saying after his outing Tuesday that he was willing to shut it down if the coaching and training staffs thinks it's prudent, Peavy might not get that option. "No not yet," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I think we should keep it the same way. Right now I don't think I'm going to throw in the towel. If they want to throw in the towel that's their problem." Peavy has had a rocky road on his path back from surgery to reattach his latissimus dorsi muscle behind his right shoulder. He has been wildly inconsistent sometimes going from dominating to vulnerable in a matter of an inning. But he did manage to get his record even at 7-7 with his performance Tuesday and his ERA moved under 5 to 4.92. Peavy has talked about next year for about a month now, all while continuing to take his turn in the rotation. He admits he has been struggling with strength and stamina and is anxious to get a break so he can feel more like himself in 2012. "I look forward to a nice winter and a nice comeback season," Peavy said after his start on Tuesday. " At the same time, I'm grinding through this one. It has been a grind. Some good, some not so good." The White Sox already have Phil Humber and Zach Stewart listed as starters on Saturday and Sunday respectively at home against Cleveland. That would mean that if Peavy started again it would be Monday at home against the Tigers with the team returning to a six-man setup. "I think he will prepare himself for his next start," Guillen said. "I don't think there should be any problem with that. I expect him to go out there for his next start."
September 8, 201114 yr I don't see a problem with having him get one more start. He looked pretty good last time out. It would be nice to see him duplicate that...go out on a good note for the season.
September 8, 201114 yr What I liked the most was Ozzie's statement that he wasn't ready to throw in the towel. If Jake is still strong enough to compete I say that's a good thing. He has all off season to rest and recuperate for 2012. You go out battling!

The only way you get better from surgery is recovery work. His recovery work is pitching right now. I'd rather him go through this crap as much as possible now and have a chance at being better next year, versus coming back next year in the exact same place he is now.

He only has one more guaranteed year with the sox, and I'm glad about that.

Yeah, I was done with Peavy after the comment amount how he can't wait for the offseason. I hope he's already on a plane out of town.

Lets see if Stewart can build on the Twins outing, with the RP in place from minors, go back to a 5 man.. Time to find out "if these kids can play"
September 10, 201114 yr With that Wednesday game being TBA, and also Buehrle's day, it would indicate they probably won't use him. Axelrod for a couple starts wouldn't suck to see. Get him some innings...maybe 4-5 at a time and maybe he'll look good as a long relief/spot starter next year. vs Det- Danks, Floyd, Axelrod at KC- Buehrle, Humber, Stewart, Danks at Cle- Floyd&Axelrod, Buehrle, Humber vs KC- Stewart, Danks, Floyd vs Tor- Buehrle, Humber, Stewart Monday night 9/26...last start for Buehrle in a Sox uni? September 10, 201114 yr 320 1/3 innings in three years if he's really done. He threw 173 2/3 in 2008. It seems impossible to hope for that many next year.
