October 31, 201114 yr I agree that there is no place for Castro on the 2012 Sox, but his tenure was a very bright light compared to the utter crap that has been the Sox backup catchers for as long as I can remember.

CHICAGO -- Nearly halfway through the exclusive negotiating period with free-agent pitcher Mark Buehrle there is no progress to report, and that’s the way the Chicago White Sox have planned it. Buehrle was among four White Sox players to officially file for free agency along with Juan Pierre, Ramon Castro and Omar Vizquel. The White Sox’s plan is to let other teams set the market for Buehrle and then decide if they can fit the veteran pitcher into a tight budget. Free agents are open to negotiate with other teams at 11 p.m. (CST) Wednesday. Despite the fact that the White Sox aren’t expected to reach a deal in the upcoming days, indications are that Buehrle could end up being the only one of the club’s free agents that will be pursued by the team. The White Sox are expected to follow the plan that led to the re-signing of Paul Konerko last offseason. Konerko received offers from other clubs and was close to signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks before the White Sox moved in and brought back their captain during the December winter meetings. There are two main issues that will make the Buehrle pursuit far more difficult that the one that led to bringing back Konerko. Because nearly all of the major-market teams with money to spend were set at first base, Konerko didn’t have as many pursuers as Buehrle is expected to have. Where the White Sox were taking a risk by adding to the payroll last winter, they will try to lower it this time around.

No doubt. Widger had a fluky season in 2005 and I think the backups were pretty decent in 2000, but Castro did just about everything expected of him while here.
October 31, 201114 yr I think we'll learn a lot about Beuhrle this offseason. Sure, most guys will just take the highest amount of money, but MB has talked for years about retiring, being close to home, he's made plenty of money, etc. It's time for him to put his money where his mouth is. If he ends up signing with an East or West coast team for a stack of money, he's basically showing that he's full of s***. The only teams that make sense for him (with his hinting about playing in the NL) would have to be something like the Cardinals, Cubs, Brewers, Reds, and of course returning to the Sox. This is all from taking a cursory look at distance on a map of the United States. The Cardinals don't have the room for him, and I seriously doubt he'd go to the Cubs. I'm not too sure of the situations of the Brewers and Reds.

October 31, 201114 yr Reds are an interesting possibility, they've got the need and he won't be too expensive. The Brewers have to spend their money on SS and 1B, though. Maybe Buerhle decide he wants to post the best numbers of his career and signs with San Diego to pitch in lefty soft-tosser heaven. He might have a Cy Young in him if he goes to Petco, haha.
