Pretty crazy comeback by Arizona to knock off the Gators in the final minute. Definitely no powerhouse teams this year.

Honestly, no one in the B1G has proven much outside of Illinois and slighty Minny. Indy was overrated at one and also beat the country's two most overrated teams. OSU and Mich, not much there.

But all five are top ten in the country.

Rankings dont mean s*** right now. OSU has been spanking mid-level tourney teams and got beat at Cameron. Play Kansas next week. Michigan looks like a powerhouse and Illinois has beated some quality opponents. I personally think all 4 teams (IU included) are #1-3 seeds in the tourney which places them mostly in the top 10. If the conference slate eats on of them up then they fall a bit but the conference has some very very high quality teams.

No, I agree with you. I was just wondering what sort of team you think of as the gold standard.

For the past 5 years everyone on this board has said there is no powerhouse team, I wouldnt worry about it.

I would think most would consider Kentucky from last year a powerhouse. UNC (when Marshall was healthy) and Syracuse were pretty good too. Hell, I'd probably take that OSU team over the options this year, we'll see how some of these teams look during conference play.

Apparently Crean has been complaining that the refs hurt Indiana in the game yesterday as well as a supposedly pro-Butler crowd. I don't have a link, it was recited to me.

Complaining that they got no "50-50 calls"

Hey, Illinois. You can blow these guys out, if ya want.

Nah, I took EKU +14

Sweet Jebus, that must have been a thrilling first half if it's 25-20 in the second half.

Apparently we can't shoot well vs these lesser teams. Just pull out the W.

We're just saving all the makes for this Saturday...right?

Pretty ugly, but at least they put it together down the stretch. What'd we end up with, 35 turnovers?

+14 spread. I win by picking EKU :D

Centsports ftw

The field just lacks any truly scary teams

This is what it will look like early in the season every year.

That's true. When you think of last year's dominant Kentucky team, you don't think of their December version, but the March/April one.

Not a chance. The same thing was said last year and the year before and so on. Nobody thinks anyone is a powerhouse until after the season. Kentucky lost at IU and was exposed, then the same happened to OSU. College bball is crazy like that.

Nah, UK and UNC were both thought to be great teams entering last year, they both had multiple NBA lottery prospects on them (so did UConn, who was 3 or 4 in most places, but they underachieved). I wouldn't say Kentucky was "exposed" by Indiana, Davis was in foul trouble, Jones had a horrible game and IU still needed a buzzer-beater to beat them at home. UNC a bit moreso with the UNLV game, but s*** happens over the course of 30-35 games.

If the bar for a "powerhouse" is going undefeated, yeah, there hasn't been one in a while. That's a bit too high though. Admittedly you don't REALLY know until March like you said because teams do choke (2010 Kansas and Kentucky come to mind). However, people certainly crown them long before that.

Perhaps "clear favorite" would be a better term than "powerhouse". There is one of those most years, and I really don't see one this year.

Jay Bilas sez Indiana is not a top 25 team.

Weird. Where'd he say that at? I usually love Bilas' insights and opinions but that's silly.

Yup, call out a team that JUST lost in heartbreaking fashion and has one of the crazier fanbases in the nation and you are a troll regardless of your title.

Not 25 is just stupid. You could argue not #1, or not top 5, but seriously there are 25 better teams in the nation than IU? Please. That is just someone looking to run up their hit count and be talked about.

Definitely all for hits. They return the same team, plus more as they had year (which was a borderline top 10 team). Surprised it's Bilas saying that though. I think he's a great analyst.

Yeah, Bilas is one of my favorites. The only time it gets a little annoying is with his Duke homerism, but I'll give a guy a little slack if it's the team he played for.

He resubmitted his ballot with Indiana at six.

In other crazy ESPN rankings though, Katz put butler sixth.

Jabari Brown makes his MU debut tonight. Very excited.
