August 25, 201213 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) If two teams finish with the same record for the second wild card spot, do they play 1 playoff game to play 1 playoff game? Yes.
August 25, 201213 yr QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) 85.1% chance of making the playoffs according to ESPN. Not a fan of that stat because that includes just getting to the wild card game, which to me, isn't making the playoffs. The Sox are 72.3% to win the division. http://www.coolstandings.com/baseball_stan...sn=2012&i=1

August 28, 201213 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:51 AM) Sox 71-56 Bal 70-57 Oak 70-57 TB 70-57 Det 69-58 Sox have played well enough to have the opportunity to keep playing well. Who's going to have enough over the next 35 games? A's schedule down the stretch is brutal! White Sox really could use some help from the Blue Jays and Red Sox, but both of those teams are limping down the stretch.

Boston will either completely mail it in, or play great baseball, after that trade. I don't see a middle ground after that deal.

I'm not a follower of "Red Sox Nation". After all of the trades and injuries what does their lineup and rotation look like? Any good?

August 30, 201213 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) Tigers lose! Sox a season high 3 games up. They were up 3.5 games in July briefly but it's all good. Just keep winning, that's all. (But I seriously would not have guessed that the Sox could lose the first two against the Orioles and still have gained a half a game by Wednesday night. The Sox have gained 1/2 as much going 1-2 this week as they did going 6-0 last week).
August 30, 201213 yr 89 days in first place with a Division lead of 3.5 games or less, that is amazing. Edited August 30, 201213 yr by RME JICO

August 30, 201213 yr Author According to BP, Detroit's playoff chances dropped 13 percent yesterday. That was a rough day for them.
August 30, 201213 yr Starting tomorrow, here are the next 4 series for the Central/Wild card contenders. Pretty exciting stuff coming... A's- vs Bos, vs LAA, at Sea, at LAA Sox- at Det, vs Min, vs KC, vs Det Orioles- at NY, at Tor, vs NY, vs TB Rays- at Tor, vs NY, vs Tex, at Bal Tigers- vs Chi, vs Cle, at LAA, at Chi Angels- at Sea, at Oak, vs Det, vs Oak If the Angels are going to get back in it, they have to beat Oakland. The Orioles are going to be tested. The Rays could go either way. And the Sox and Tigers will probably tread water the rest of the season, and the team that's breathing at the end, will win the division.
