Look at these splits for Paulie:

April and May he was a monster. Since then, he had a mediocre July, but June and August were pathetic for our cleanup hitter, and the last week has been unwatchable.

Maybe there's hope in his home/away splits.

Home 209 32 71 11 0 12 36 25 2 33 0 0 .340 .414 .565 .979

Away 229 23 64 8 0 9 26 18 5 36 0 0 .279 .344 .432 .776

I don't think Robin can afford to just pencil him into the 4 slot every day and pray he rebounds. At home maybe he should play everyday, but his last week on the road was SO BAD anyone -- even a pitcher -- could have outhit him.

What's up? He's not the only one in a slump, but he's killing the heart of the order. You can't have Dunn strike out like he does with men on base if Paulie can never pick them up.

Tonight already, comes up in first with one out, Youk on 3rd, Dunn on second. Pitcher starts him 3-0. On 3-2, weak fly to right not enough to score Youk.

In second inning, bases loaded. After two outs De Aza singles, Youk and Dunn both walk. Konerko ends the threat again.

If Dunn can play first, I'd rather we have Viciedo DH and have Wise play in LF to rest Paulie some.

Konerko looks as bad as I've ever seen him.

I just have a STRONG feeling as soon as our last game is played we're going to hear from Robin and KW how Paulie played with a cracked bone in his hand or something. You just know he's hurt, especially with Hawk implying it a lot throughout the course of the second half.

He's definitely hurting, and not just his wrist. Dunn was playing more firstbase before his injury, and they lifted Paulie tonight even though Lopez isn't Brooks Robinson at 3B.

As bad as he's hurting and stinking, he's still in the top ten in the league in batting average. That's pretty wild. I bet he has a pretty bad injury that he's playing through.

He also turned around a Verlander 97 MPH fastball and ripped it into LF.

He's far from Dunn.

I'd still rather have him up in a key situation than Dunn, and maybe even Rios, too.

That bone chip or fragment must still be floating around in there and rubbing against something....the treatment this year hasn't worked as well as in 2011, for whatever reason. They should really go in and get that cleaned up this offseason.

Seems to have knocked off his power as well, to an extent.

CLEVELAND -- Paul Konerko will have surgery Thursday to remove loose bodies from his left wrist, the first baseman said Tuesday.

The White Sox longest-tenured player announced plans for the surgery -- to be performed at Rush Medical Center -- originally in June when he a procedure done to keep himself playable. The White Sox had several tentative dates picked out for the upcoming procedure and selected Thursday when the team was eliminated from the postseason on Monday.

In June, Konerko had a procedure in which the debris in his wrist was flushed to an area where it wouldn’t limit his performance and he could remain playable. At the time, Konerko said he should have had the surgery after the end of the 2011 season.

The six-time All-Star was asked repeatedly this season if his wrist bothered him and he continually said it hasn’t been an issue. Konerko enters the White Sox final two games hitting .299 with 25 homers and 73 RBIs.

“It was not a factor in any way other than the time it got in there whenever we were playing early in (June),” Konerko said. “After I had that procedure done it hung around a little longer. There were definitely games we were playing the Cardinals and the Dodgers on the road and it wasn’t a good time then. ... I’ve been doing baseball for a while and even if that was the case you should overcome that at some point.”

Konkero said the surgery is the first he will have had performed. As heads into the final season of a three-year, $37.5 million deal -- he’ll earn $13.5 million in 2013 -- Konerko has no concerns about the procedure or how it will affect him on the field.

“I really don’t have any worries about it,” Konerko said. “I’ve never had surgery before but other than that I have no reservations about my wrist in the future. I don’t even have any reservations about anything in the future -- hitting, playing, really other than some years shape up a certain way. It’s really no different than any other year: some stuff you like. I don’t think I’ve ever walked away from a year loving everything and this one’s no different.”

He's old and injured. Next topic.

He's not that old. At least he doesn't lie about his age like some big leaguers do. Not putting words in your mouth, but there's something about Paulie that makes people get on him whereas other players like Rios seem to get a free pass when they stink (last year). I've never understood what makes some players likeable and some not.

Not sure how he can really lie since he was born in the US.

So basically, what I said all season. He continued to play hurt instead of getting it taken care of early and possibly coming back to actually help the team in Septemeber he chose to "play through it" and shug his shoulders every time he swung the bat.
