You're right about the White Sox (at least I hope you are), but Cleveland now has an experienced manager who knows how to win, and an excited fanbase that will probably start showing up to the Jake in droves, which will give them more money to spend at the deadline.

They have drawn 2 million twice the last 10 years. They drew what the Sox drew last year while winning 93 games and only drew 2.2 million when they won 97.

The pitching is still incredibly suspect.

 

I honestly think it's going to be a race for 2nd place anyways, but crazier things have happened. So long as Ventura continues the work he did last year, the Sox are going to be the most fundamentally sound team in the Central once again.

Has there EVERY been a team more set up for unmitigated disaster than the 2013 Dodgers? Like it might be really BAD. Like No playoffs, multiple games behind the division leader bad.

Could be, but they have a ridiculous amount of talent. They could legitimately rock like an 8 man rotation - Kershaw, Greinke, Capuano, Billingsley, Beckett, Ryu, Harang, and Lilly. They can trade two starting pitchers and still end up with a pretty damn good pitcher in the bullpen, and their bullpen is already pretty good.

 

That pitching staff alone should get them 85 wins.

That whole rotation outside of Kershaw is all ?'s to me. Greinke being the biggest with his emotional issues.

Padres might look to add another SP at some point. I don't think this materializes into an opportunity to move Floyd but it is a little interesting based on Headley being a good fit at 3rd.

Add to it Greinke, a new owner that's a Hall of Fame NBA star putting World Series or Bust like pressure on them, and their bitterest division rival coming off of a World Series.

True, I am closer, and the hype is palpable, but it's not like the Dodgers get ignored nationally. Especially after the spending spree, they're a story.

 

The thing that I think sets them apart is just how much money they spent in the last year, it was such a massive increase, even the Red Sox couldn't top it since they were always big spenders and just spent more.

If the Dodgers don't at least get to the playoffs, they would have to be the biggest bomb ever. This is the team that took the "highest payroll" mantle from the Yankees. That makes them the first non-Yankees squad in 15 years to lead MLB in payroll. When you add the billion or so dollars in payroll commitments they have added, to me that would deserve the crown.
