There is supplemental revenue sharing apart from what you are thinking about. See page 222 of the current cba. The White Sox had to contribute money to this revenue sharing last season and will be one of 11 teams contributing again in 2013. The Tigers were recipients in 2012, and will be again in 2013, albeit a lower percentage.

The formula is not disclosed. But it does state future changes to the performance factor percentages will be made based on "broadcast revenue". So I guess that's the main component.

If he's healthy and if he's the John Danks of '08-'10. That remains to be seen so the Sox should not be banking on that as their improvement. Keppinger had a good year last year, but he's really just an average player. Unfortunately, just an average player at 3B does make us slightly better than last year if nothing else happens, but the changes the Sox have made thus far certainly do not compare to the upgrades the Tigers and the Royals have made this offseason. And yes, I realize Victor Martinez has the same question marks surrounding his return as does John Danks, but I'd be willing to bet it is more likely he comes back and can hit like he used to than John comes back and can pitch like he used to.

 

And I'm saying all this in a thread about AJ. Shows how desperate I am for something to talk about with the Sox this offseason. Please do something exciting, Rick. I can't wait until February for Sox news. I want to be getting excited about 2013, and so far I'm going in the opposite direction.

Simply put, his performance at the plate in 2012 is evidence of a trend, not an anomaly. He is going the wrong way at the plate—although that seems to be lost on the parties involved.

 

They come to that by quoting his 2012 White Sox stats, and his 2010 power numbers at Charlotte.

Nope, although I do believe that without AJ, the team takes a big step back as a contender, and leave the team with very little left handed power.

How much lefthanded power do you need exactly? We have a power-only DH that is a lefty. I'm sure they will address a bat off the bench or even in the field, but I am not sure we are severely lacking power from that spot.

I'm going back to my original AJ list to balance out that "article" that wouldn't have even made a good message board post.

 

Reasons to not bring back AJ...

 

#1, we have a starting catcher in waiting who is going to be making $500,000 this year. AJ is going to be making at very least 10 X's that. Probably more like 15 to 20 X's that. Flowers also played much better when he got consistent playing time. There is a pretty decent chance that he puts up numbers comparable to AJ, for a much smaller price.

 

#2, Many, many stories about his clubhouse antics

 

#3, instead of spending the money on a position where we already have a young cheap player, we could spend it elsewhere

 

#4, the guy had a career year, at age 35, and it wasn't even really close. All kinds of red flags should be going up, such as regression, was he cheating, etc.

 

#5, the guy is a catcher who has played at least 125 games in every season since 2001. Breakdown could happen any day.

 

#6, If AJ doesn't play every day, will he cause problems?

AJ is a big strong guy. He altered his approach. A little less contact, more home runs.
