Cardinals put the tarp on before it rained tonight. Learned from last night.

The weather this season has been brutal.

Possible tornado on the ground west of St Louis right now.

Edit: confirmed on the ground as I hit post.

They should have just tried to win a championship last year.

No doubt about it. They would have had a great chance to win it all last year. Got to take advantage of those opportunities when they come around, because nothing is ever promised tomorrow.

The worst-case scenario is something like the Robert Griffin III situation in Washington, but baseball pitchers and predicting when they're going to fall-apart is a totally unpredictable "science" if you even want to call it that.

I never root for injuries, but I would love to see the Strasburg situation blow up in Washington's face. So easy to root against them.

Looks like back problems, rather than shoulder/arm/elbow.

Totally agree.

The Mets won 4 straight vs. the Yankees this week, then proceeded to give up 24 runs in a 3-game sweep by the Marlins. Baseball's randomness at its finest.

What happen to Tim Lincecum? How the might have fallen. 5+ ERA. It's like the pitching version of Adam Dunn.

Cain isn't so far ahead of him.

Halladay is nearing the end.

Johan Santana.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen, to be replaced by the likes of Harvey, Corbin, Jose Fernandez and Shelby Miller.

Heck, Zito's been better than those two guys.

Dodgers recall Yasiel Puig from minors

Their season crumbling under the weight of injury and poor performance, the Los Angeles Dodgers beckoned 22-year-old man-child Yasiel Puig from the minor leagues on Sunday. Yasiel Puig follows through on a two-run homer during spring training. (USA Today)

Puig’s promotion from Double-A Chattanooga was hastier than general manager Ned Colletti would have planned. These are, however, desperate times for the Dodgers, who have lost four of five games, have been in the National League West cellar for the better part of a month, have outscored only the Miami Marlins in the NL, and currently are operating without star outfielders Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford.

So along comes Puig, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Cuban defector who signed with the Dodgers last summer for $42 million over seven years. He created a stir in spring training, first with his vicious hacks and ridiculously long batting-practice home runs, then when he batted .517 with three home runs over 58 exhibition at-bats.

The Dodgers already had Kemp, Crawford and Andre Ethier in their outfield. They also were convinced Puig required more minor-league time, because he was professionally unpolished and emotionally immature. In 40 games in Chattanooga, the natural right fielder batted .313 with eight home runs and 37 RBI. He also was arrested in October and charged with speeding, reckless driving and driving without insurance.

At the time, the Dodgers reassigned Puig from major-league camp, manager Don Mattingly explained, “I kind of look at Yasiel like a Ferrari. The motor's there, the body's there, the wheels are there – everything's there, they just haven't painted it yet. You leave that out in the sun, then you get it exposed a little bit.”

A third of the way through the season, the same could be said of the Dodgers. Kemp had been ineffective, then injured his hamstring and is on the disabled list. Crawford suffered from a hamstring cramp Saturday in Colorado. Ethier is batting .240 with four home runs and 15 RBI. On Sunday, the Dodgers started Scott Van Slyke in left field (and in the cleanup spot), Skip Schumaker in center and Ethier in right.

Puig is expected to join the Dodgers on Monday when they begin a three-game series at Dodger Stadium against the San Diego Padres. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, also out with a hamstring strain, could join the club the same series.

Andrus at SS is a function of the fact that this is a weak position in the AL (Asdrubal Cabrera is better but not having the best season, Peralta deserves the spot) but also of the Rangers voting in their favorites and having attendance superiority.

And, it makes Alexei Ramirez still attractive, comparatively.

Credit to the fans for Davis over Fielder. Hunter in the OF (he did have a hot start but no way he's going to hold up as an All-Star) is a bit more dubious.

Dominic Brown is kinda on a good streak, wow

With the all the talk about prospects and rebuilding in PHT, there's an example of a "can't miss" guy who looked like a bust, but has suddenly figured it out. Kind of like Chris Davis.

This FAU-UNC Regional final on ESPNU is amazing!

UNC led 6-2 in the 9th. It was 6-4 with 2 outs and FAU hit a grand slam to lead 8-6.

UNC came back and score 2 in the 9th to force extra innings.

FAU hits a 3 run HR in 12th to take a 11-8 lead. UNC then loads the bases with 0 outs. It gets to 11-10 with 1 out and UNC gets a single to left and the FAU LF throws out the winning run.

In the 13th now. The new pitcher for UNC started yesterday and threw 90 pitches. Yikes..

That was impressive. Lookin' forward to seein' what the hype is all about.

Oh, and Wil Myers has apparently gone Miguel Cabrera on the International league in the last week and a half.

Just a few short weeks ago, Rays prospect Wil Myers was undeniably struggling. His batting average sat below .250, and the power numbers were nothin' special. Myers wasn't exactly building a strong call-up case.

And then the assault began. Myers has pummeled International League pitching in recent days, with little mercy. Over his last 10 games, he's gone 18-for-44 with 11 extra-base hits (six homers included), and he's driven in a ridiculous 21 runs.
