March 21, 201313 yr QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) The guy that had the ball wasn't their best FT shooter. The Davidson guy was wide open and it would have taken 2-3 seconds for Marquette to catch up to him and foul, but the pass was too far out front. Think wide open WR 30 yards down the field behind the D and the QB overthrows him by 10 yards. The strategy was fine, the execution was awful. I looked at it again. The guy that couldn't catch up to the pass, originally was moving up court when the guy looked to make the pass. Right before he made it, he stopped. Passer led him thinking he was going to meet him (and it probably would have worked). But there was no one near him. He could have made a much lighter pass and not led him so much, and no one would have been anywhere close to intercepting it. Just a brutal way to lose a game. Up 4 with 20 seconds left, and lose.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) I-L-L Cmon seniors, out-tough and out-together them. One more in you. Do you want to be known as the class who couldn't win more NCAA games than Demetri McCamey? Hell no!
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 07:37 AM) How does a 12 seed get to play 30-40 miles from campus? Cal was an 11 seed
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) Cal was an 11 seed They were a 12. Officially at least.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) Cal was an 11 seed Well before they changed it sure, but they ended up a 12. Either way, an 11/12 shouldn't have that advantage.

The problem is the 12 seeds are pretty much at the end of the S curve (last at larges) so they have to make the bracket fit somehow. When Cal and Oregon got bumped, it created problems due to the bracketing rules. To fix it they would likely have had to go back and rework the bracket and move other teams at least a few seed levels back. I'm guessing they get to the point that its a pick your poison kind of situation and keeping Cal close to home was better than potentially having to move several other teams. It's unfair to UNLV to a point, but the bottom line is UNLV travels well and that wasn't a long trip for them either and they were a much higher seed.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) NCST is brutal right now. They were a favorite preseason. Gottfried is a bad coach. All that talent and he blew it.

They are in the same conference, so affiliation wouldn't have affected it. That would have solved the whole problem. Cal had already played UNLV which made it worse.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Gottfried is a bad coach. All that talent and he blew it. They play really bad defense.

That would have solved the whole problem. Cal had already played UNLV which made it worse. Oregon also played in San Jose. They could have switched them just to avoid the rematch but it wouldn't have changed the location.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) Gottfried is a bad coach. All that talent and he blew it. Yep, he underachieved at Bama too. I was pretty surprised when he got the NC State job.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) Yep, he underachieved at Bama too. I was pretty surprised when he got the NC State job. Too much talent on that team to end up an 8 seed and to get bounced in the first round.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) That looked clean to me. It was clean. The ref didnt see the foul based on him blowing the whistle after the ball was rebounded by NCST. he just figured it had to have been a foul.

Play s***ty defense, slide over late and be rewarded with them calling a charge. Make a great block and get penalized for contesting a shot. Makes for awesome basketball.
March 22, 201313 yr I wish Crean would shorten his bench at least for the first half. No reason for some of these guys to be playing in this tournament unless its a blowout.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) Sigh, hey it's Illinois basketball.
