Talk about being put into a terrible situation. With that said, I don't think the struggles of this team are a surprise to him at all. If he thought they could seriously contend this year, I'm sure he would have been way more active in the offseason.

Truthfully, I'm shocked how bad Keppinger has been.

 

Have to wonder about his health considering the offseason injury, the spring training injury, and the back issue. Robin says he thinks Kep is struggling to deal with cold weather.

I didn't know the Sox had the worst OBP in the majors, even worse than the Marlins (and their pitchers having to hit).

That's bulls***, he played for the Reds long enough that if he didn't want to play in the cold, he shouldn't have signed here. I'm the one who questioned a few days ago if he was out of shape coming into ST after the injury, but his ST numbers were incredible.

It's a perfect storm right now with all these injuries combined with an average roster coming into the season with key players seemingly in decline. It happens, and it's something that probably 99% of this board was predicting would happen to this organization a few years ago. Now it's just a matter of not striking out on major trades, which happened far too often the last 5 years.

We all knew this time was coming, but I think many predicted it would be next year. The Myers for Shields/Davis trade sped up the process significantly. As I said earlier in the game, this Royals team is just flat out more talented than the White Sox (something no one has said in a long time).

Worst part is as soon as Sox score 5 or 6 runs the pitching will go south and lose 7-6 the spiral continues same as last 5 years.

My heart is telling me to give it more time.

A complete game from Guthrie Sox playing like s*** against KC what new! Sox players besides Axelrod mailed this game in effort was not ever 50% tonight.

When you have the worst offense and defense in the AL, your team just isn't very good.

Guthrie is the real deal, let's stop pretending the SOX were dealing with some scrub tonight. Sox are banged up. I expect when Beckham returns that you Kepp gets bench time. I really want Viciedo to return so De Aza gets his b**** ass back in CF. Granted, no runs were scored due to the De Aza tonight but he has kicked the ball around a lot.

This team is last in the AL in so many things.

Will likely be another first tonight....Guthrie hasn't had a complete game yet this season.

First career shutout in 216 starts as well.

Getz is becoming a problem with his bat. Elliott Johnson has been getting more playing time, but nobody is convinced he's the answer. Semi-prospect Johnny Giavotella is hitting in Triple-A, but he's striking out a ton, his defense sucks, and he's showed very little in KC over three stints. Former top pick Christian Colon isn't hitting well in Triple-A. So yeah, 2nd base is an issue.

 

And of course Francoeur still sucks. He's got a great arm but other than that he's a defensive liability. He's swings at everything, doesn't make a lot if contact, and never walks.

 

Most Royals fans prefer Jarrod Dyson in center with Lorenzo Cain moving to right. Dyson doesn't have any power but makes decent contact, can take a walk, and is one of the fastest players in baseball. He's a defensive upgrade over Cain defensively too.

 

We've still got some nice prospects but the only ones close to the bigs are all pitchers.

 

Guthrie has now pitched 44 innings over 5 starts as a Royal against the White Sox. He's allowed 2 earned runs. He came into the game with a 0.50 ERA against them and managed to lower it to 0.04, wow.
