He plays his best baseball in that state. 11 to 4 BB to K ratio in the Fall League thus far (including today's game). Small sample, but encouraging.

Seriously, you almost wonder if he wasn't hurt this year. Maybe he received some coaching down there that completely turned his game around. Who knows what the hell is going on
October 29, 201312 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) Seriously, you almost wonder if he wasn't hurt this year. Maybe he received some coaching down there that completely turned his game around. Who knows what the hell is going on I often wonder what he'd be like if he never got hurt in the first place. He was looking like a Carl Crawford clone before he shredded his ankle on that fateful play in ST.
October 30, 201312 yr What did they do with Mitchell in the AFL that they couldn't have tried the other 6 months of the year? I'm totally bewildered
October 30, 201312 yr Meh. It's great that he's having some success, but the AFL is a notorious hitters league. I'll be much more encouraged if he starts hitting in full-season ball.
October 30, 201312 yr Should we try and trade Mitchell for anything we can while he may have marginal value, or should we just hold him until spring training and see if he can fight Danks for a 4th OF spot? I guess either way it's not going to impact much.

I'm keeping him, you're not gonna get much of anything for him in return and if he turns it around he presents a pretty good option in CF and leading off(dude can take a walk).
October 30, 201312 yr If you could get anything of value for Mitchell, you trade him but you won't be able to so you hold onto him.

October 30, 201312 yr Author QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) Meh. It's great that he's having some success, but the AFL is a notorious hitters league. I'll be much more encouraged if he starts hitting in full-season ball. I wouldn't be concerned about the "hitters' league" aspect, as that effect should be somewhat small. More important is that it is only 39 plate appearances. But even then, while it doesn't suddenly return him to top prospect status, it does help his cause. Not just at face value, but having a strong AFL appearance will help him going into 2014, having gotten into a rhythm a bit. He's not yet, to me, reached a point of complete non-prospect. If his 2014 is like his 2013, then he's done. But if he can do well in 2014, he's in the picture. October 30, 201312 yr It isn't the hitting so much as him walking 11 times and only striking out 5 times. I'd be shocked if there was a stretch the entire season where he did that.
October 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/semien...fall-stars-game That game will be on MLB network though when I haven't checked.
October 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 12:59 AM) That game will be on MLB network though when I haven't checked. Saturday @ 7p. Kinda lame that it appears the All Stars or whatever weren't picked on their AFL performance. Semien was garbage, Leesman/McCray were better than Bassit(though all 3 were real good), and Mitchell put up better numbers than 3 of the 5 OFers on the team.

I'd much rather watch Semien than any of those other guys. And he's had a bit of a long season too...13 games in the AFL (50 PAs), 21 games in the majors (71 PAs), and 137 games in the minors (626 PAs). Dude's probably a bit tired at this point, what with 747 PAs this year. I still want to see what he's capable of.

Wouldn't really make much sense to base it on AFL performance when they've each been in like 8 games at most by that point.
November 2, 201312 yr MLB Network is carrying some week day games too. Glendale's game will be on next Friday.
November 6, 201312 yr Game winning homer for Mitchell today. 2-5, .353 Jacobs, 2-5, double Semien, 1-4, bb Bassitt k'd 2 Saw Bassitt for the first time in the All Star Game over the weekend. Doesn't look like anything special, but if he's a strike thrower he could be a swing guy.

Doesn't look like anything special, but if he's a strike thrower he could be a swing guy. Had a detailed report on Bassitt from that game: FB 91-94 T95, curve 77-78 with a foot-plus of movement. The fact that he is maintaining that level of velocity, despite being over 180 innings (only pitched about 90 last year) tells me his endurance is very strong. He's also posted some strong peripherals despite the doubling of innings. And his AA stats don't include his run through the AA playoffs, during which he was flat-out dominant in his starts. I don't think he's a swing guy. I liked him last year, even more now, and I think he's a starter, or possibly a late inning reliever. As a reliever he can hit mid-90's with some consistency, with a big moving curve, which is plenty to work with for that role.

It would be nice if he pans out as a starter, Sox could use a few more RHP'ing prospects that show promise.
November 7, 201312 yr QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) You'd still prefer Beck to Bassit though right? Upside wise, yes. He needs to continue striking guys out as he was doing in AA. He could be a guy that really explodes this year or simply falls by the way side.
November 7, 201312 yr http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/mlb/4505...y-afl-prospects Little write up about AFL prospects. Has paragraphs on Mitchell and Semien.

I tend to be a little lower on Beck than some (I have concerns about K rates), and a little higher on Bassitt. But even then, I'd still take Beck over Bassitt at this point.
