I don't want to spend the money, I don't want to lose the pick and I don't want inflated win totals that hurt our draft position next year, because we aren't contending this year. And I don't want inconsistent pitchers paid big salaries.

Woah. I'm sorry we can't all be infinitely wise like you. Maybe the reason a lot of people haven't acceded to your correctness yet is because you haven't yelled loud enough and for long enough. You should keep trying, then we'll all see the light. Also, maybe we'll see that one type of beer is definitively better than another type and there is a character flaw in people who don't like the same brands as you. This is all really healthy.

Its the best way to get rid of Dunn's contract but he has to play in order to make himself intriguing enough for a team to be willing to trade for him.

 

Besides all that, its just bad business to flat out dump a high salary player if you ever want to sign a FA again in the future. As bad as Dunn has been he's not nearly the bust that Vernon Wells has been ( just showing it could be worse). If we have to sit through one more season of Dunn then so be it, but at least he will be playing which opens the door of potentially trading him.

Dunn isn't hindering anyone. All Viciedo has to do is stay healthy and hit and he's got his spot in LF. ADA at this point is hopefully trade bait and doesn't really factor into what Hahn is setting this team up for in the short and long term so ADA getting as many at bats is no big deal.

Viciedo maybe, but not De Aza. De Aza is never going to fetch anything valuable in a trade. If he could, he'd be gone by now. Giving Dunn's playing time to De Aza accomplishes nothing, other than killing Dunn's potential trade value.
