ST: 3/19 vs Angels

Featured Replies

2 months of Davidson at AAA now (and it's not like he has mastered that level already), and the Sox get another year out of him when they figure to contend. Plus if Gillaspie can show some improvement from last year he could be a reasonable piece given the dearth of 3Bs around right now.

They shouldn't send him down. Why do the Sox owe Gillaspie anything?

Like the poster above stated, it's all about service time. Plus, Gillaspie didn't really have all that bad of a rookie year... Did he?

Hahn's probably sitting in his office like Mr. Burns today.

Eaton - 2-4, RBI, 2B.

Semien 1-2, 2 BB, R.

Avi Garcia - 1-3, BB, R, RBI

Abreu - 3-4, HR, 2B, 3 RBIs,

Davidson - 2-4, HR, 3 RBIs, R, 2 Ks.

Meanwhile Jordan Danks hit his 3rd HR in his last three at bats. Hitting .378 this spring.

fix that for ya

The problem is that Gillaspie should probably only face RHP. If Keppinger could play 3B and they went with a straight platoon, it'd be fine. Ventura would let Gillaspie face a LHP so often last year though. Look at his splits.

But the caution is who they produced against. A GM will also look at spring stats versus level of competition. If a player is producing mostly against the opponent's AA/A pitchers then the stats are really inflated.

Using spring stats to really determine anything but bottom of the roster spot is silly. Even if you are facing Chris Sale and ripping him now, it means zilch. When the games count the best pitchers are a lot different than they are in March.

Exactly. Not that Edwin Jackson is the model of success, but he threw 50+ pitches in a start earlier this spring, and all 50+ were fastballs. Renteria wasn't happy about it, but guys go out there right now trying to work on specific things. If they leave one fat, they don't care so long as they get their work in.
