June 10, 201411 yr Nice win. When you have Abreu in the lineup you win some 6-5 games. Lot of good things like Gillaspie getting another big RBI hit and Eaton coming through with the chopper hit. And Bella who had lousy stuff surviving a five-out ninth. The leadoff hitter should have been out on that liner to right. Who knows what would have happened had we gotten that out. Maybe a 1-2-3 ninth. Great win. It would have been meltdown mode blowing a 2-run lead in the ninth in opening game of a 4-game set. You guys may get rained out tomorrow if this front is headed your way. Royals game had no chance today. It's been raining for 11 hours straight.
June 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Flowers is at a 38% K rate. I wanna see more of Nieto to be honest. 11 for his last 70 with 32 strikeouts.
June 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) Flowers has looked bad, maybe we they should split 50/50 from here on out. I wish that would happen need to see more Nieto anyway.

June 10, 201411 yr I'd urge caution on anyone expecting Nieto to be much better, he's hitting worse than Flowers with a higher BABIP and has a BB:K ratio of nearly 1:18. To be expected coming from high-A of course, but don't expect much out of him if his game time increases.

Flowers an automatic out at this point

Flowers is doing nothing and gotta remember that Nieto is getting around 6 ABs a week if that. Very hard to be successful, especially being a rookie and not playing above A ball.
June 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) Flowers has looked bad, maybe we they should split 50/50 from here on out. He's wearing down from playing everyday. There aren't many catchers around like AJ Pierzynski who can take a beating behind the plate and continue playing everyday without their performance falling way off. Nieto needs more playing time for development and Flowers will benefit from more games off.

Of course, that's six years in the minors already, but it's a possible sign of progress, and we all know the effect the presence of Abreu has had on Ramirez and to a lesser extent Viciedo (at least until recently). Nieto is learning on the fly, as you mention, he was just in A ball. the sox didn't want to loose him if he didn't stick.
