June 11, 201411 yr We haven't done a prospect interview in a while, and I want to do one soon. My goal is to look for a player who we haven't interviewed in the past year or two, who people want to hear about. Who should we interview? Below is a list of who we HAVE interviewed this season or last (in order of most recent), so try for one not on this list.... James Dykstra Chris Bassitt Dan Black Thad Lowry Trey Michalczewski Sammy Ayala Micah Johnson (twice) Courtney Hawkins Kevan Smith Joey DeMichele (twice) Mike Recchia Myles Jaye Jake Cose Chris Curley Mark Haddow (no longer in the org) Jacob May Brad Goldberg Tim Anderson Tyler Danish Keon Barnum Adam Lopez Stew Brase (no longer in the org) Marcus Semien Erik Johnson Anyone else is fair game. ONE CAVEAT - some of these guys don't speak a lot of English, so we usually shy away from those unless one of us is there in person with a translator available.
June 11, 201411 yr How about Saladino or Sanchez? (not sure about the latter's English) Wendelken and Montas too, like SoxPride18 said, but again I'm not sure about Montas' English.
June 11, 201411 yr Author Adolfo speaks English fluently, but he might be a hard get because he'll likely be on the AZL team. They are owned by the big club, and we don't yet have contacts down there. So that one may have to wait until later in the year. But worth considering for later. Not sure about Montas' or Sanchez' English, I will find out.
June 11, 201411 yr Grabbing a guy like Adams or Fry would be awesome too as a new draft pick. Beat everyone else to the punch.

I was thinking more doing this in the next week, which is before those guys will report to the affiliates, and therefore it will be a little harder to get to them (though not impossible). But definitely yes, will try to catch some new draft picks in July or August.

June 12, 201411 yr Author Good suggestions all around so far, thanks. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) those 4 plus Mitchell Andrew or Jared?
June 12, 201411 yr Maybe you can track down Eddy Ramirez (the Olympic speed skater) and he could help with translation out in AZ...? And also a short story on why he chose the White Sox to show proper respect to him. It's a cool story. Austin would be REALLY cool because he could tell us lots of cool stories about Rodon to whet our appetite for the future...maybe some hints about when he might be signing, what team Austin will be starting off with (assuming it's one of the short season teams for a start or two but it could be Kanny since that's where Rodon would go sooner or later before Winston-Salem). Typically, players don't really enjoy being interviewed to talk about other players. He just signed his first pro contract, he is excited about what's gong on in his life. You don't want to put a potential interview for later by irritating him now. I really like the idea of Ramirez. I worked with him when he was in the juniors. He is a fun guy and would probably enjoy doing it, unless he is being overwhelmed from other sources.

Obviously, he was selected by the White Sox at least 50% because of Rodon and their relationship, so it goes with the territory. And he's already made jokes online about Rodon not being able to get rid of him, and they are/were roommates I think. With the dearth of catching prospects in the Sox system, you could still make it 75% about the things he needs to do in order to stick at the catching position as he moves up (certainly he will as long as he's with Rodon before Carlos is promoted to the big league team)...maybe what going to college has taught him or the general experience of being around a college program with two Top 15 players in the country that failed to succeed and maybe why that happened...how his hit tool has blossomed from the time he was in high school and highly scouted and how he envisions his career with the Sox unfolding, what they've told him to work on, etc.
June 12, 201411 yr Author Beck and Eddy Alvarez are both very intriguing, those are names I am leaning towards. Walker is a no, he's got emotional issues and is really unhappy right now. That could be a disaster for all involved. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Typically, players don't really enjoy being interviewed to talk about other players. Obviously I could ask about Rodon, but it can't be a question that sets up any sort of negativity.

Brett Austin was named an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association AND Baseball America. He hit .344/.414/.516/.930 this past year with very good BB and K rates. He's a good player.
