I have no clue.. It is probably him putting more pressure on himself and he just doesn't perform.

Does it not make more sense that by splitting each player's stats into RISP and non-RISP that you're going to get some players who have disparities, particularly when you're talking about (Beckham's 64 PA with RISP in 2014) a little over 2% of a player's career plate appearances?

So why have the Sox been so awful at signing free agents off of other teams major league roster? Over the last two years, the Sox have gotten little to no production from:

 

- Belisario

- Downs

- Boggs

- Keppinger

- Paulino

 

Lindstrom has been the best FA signing (off of MLB roster) during Hahn's tenure. It possibly illustrates a major weakness in the scouting department.

Performance never stopped you from pushing De Aza daily. I know he is on DL I mean at some point this year.

Actually I was pushing De Aza because I said his stats didn't match up to what he was actually doing. I think he's shown that to be the case. With Hanson, I pointed out his FIP in addition to his ERA to show that his stats match up to what he's doing. Which is not very much. Plus, he's injured. Or "injured".

They've always been better with the Putnams, Guerras, Cletos, Humbers, Loaiza, DeAza, Matt Thornton, Santos, Jenks "under the radar" type of moves.

 

Carlos Quentin, or Jose Quintana, for example.

 

Belisario would arguably have been fine if he'd been left alone in the 7th/8th inning.

 

With Boggs, the Cardinals wouldn't have given up on him if they thought he could be fixed...of course, their bullpen has 10X more depth and competition, so that was the second reason they felt comfortable moving on.

 

 

If you add up all those salaries, it doesn't amount to Jake Peavy or Alex Rios.

I believe that Beckham has been horrible with RISP this season.. That is all I really care about..

And he has been. The point is that it's not a stat that's been shown to be predictive going forward. To me, it's random. If I told you Beckham was hitting great during the day and awful at night this year, would you say he has a problem batting at night?

I think that is comparing apples to oranges.. Hitting with RISP is something that is mentioned a lot is actually important.

What happened?

Beckham not hitting for Garcia shouldn't be the issue. The issue should be that you have one of the poorest hitting players in the majors batting in front of your main offensive threat. Ventura's making a lot of decisions that are making very little sense.

Well, it's important in terms of its outcome, but to me it's not something that players really control. Anyway, interesting to see other people's perspective on things.
