July 22, 201411 yr Brian Costa @BrianCostaWSJ 7m Sources: Rob Manfred, Tim Brosnan and Bob Bowman have all formally interviewed for the MLB commissioner’s job. Manfred heavily favored.
July 22, 201411 yr It's too bad that GWB is one of the least popular presidents of all time because he'd probably make an excellent commish.

"I've spoken to baseball commissioner Bush and he has pledged to find the steroid abusers even if he has to wiretap every phone in the country."
July 22, 201411 yr It's too bad that GWB is one of the least popular presidents of all time because he'd probably make an excellent commish. Regardless of popularity I just don't see a former President holding down a job like that. Too much Secret Service red tape.

July 22, 201411 yr Have you seen everything Jimmy Carter is able to pull off? Different kind of stuff though. MLB commish is a high-profile job all by itself.
July 22, 201411 yr GWB is uniquely qualified to very publicly balance the interests of dozens of billionaires and millionaires. I think he's been away from the game long enough that, unlike other candidates, he shouldn't have too well-entrenched interests/friendships/personal conflicts with existing figures in baseball. Whoever is chosen, I'd like it to not be Bud's right-hand man. Edited July 22, 201411 yr by Jake

I think even his critics would see him as a great choice if he'd commit to the job. He's obviously by far the most qualified. But he's already had enough stress in his life I can't see him wanting to do it.

July 24, 201411 yr Running baseball is totally different than running a country. I could see him being a really good choice.
August 5, 201411 yr Author Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 24m #RedSox chairman Tom Werner emerged as the surprise #MLB Commissioner finalist, joining Rob Manfred and Tim Brosnan. http://usat.ly/1s9dLMP
August 6, 201411 yr Author Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 39m appears manfred has about 20 votes of 23 needed to become commish. but reinsdorf sees it as a race. http://cbsprt.co/1klIweE
August 11, 201411 yr I agree that GWB would make an excellent commish. Can't see it happening, though.
August 11, 201411 yr Author Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 7h Have heard enough to know this: MLB has had a hard time enticing commish candidates. Reality: great title, but relatively little power.

August 13, 201411 yr Author Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 1m Bill DeWitt Jr., chair of search committee, said he's "optimistic" MLB owners will reach a decision on new commissioner tomorrow.
August 14, 201411 yr I found this somewhat interesting but it did not really make since. Werner and Moreno give out boat loads of money to their players. I do not see them looking for balance or a work stoppage. This seemed like a poorly written piece to me. If Reinsdorf is aligning with those two there is a ton of dough going in pockets. http://deadspin.com/today-mlbs-owners-deci...-war-1620702208
