July 24, 201411 yr Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 1h Tyler Flowers has struck out 5x in last 28 plate appearances, ever since he went from contacts to glasses. #WhiteSox http://bit.ly/1pgCLuX Before last 28 plate appearances, Tyler Flowers had struck out 100 times in 264 PAs. He attributes it to pitch selection.
July 24, 201411 yr Not to mention his 5 doubles in that time period which doubled his double total for the year....Certainly not ready to say he's turned it around for good, and if they can acquire a catcher at the deadline I'd still do it, but he has certainly looked better since wearing those magical glasses.
July 24, 201411 yr It says a lot about a player when striking out almost 20% of the time over a 28 PA sample size is a noteworthy achievement
July 24, 201411 yr QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) It says a lot about a player when striking out almost 20% of the time over a 28 PA sample size is a noteworthy achievement Yeah, if you weren't familiar with the situation, you'd think "s***, get rid of them, they obviously didn't help."
July 25, 201411 yr Marge: Have you noticed any change in Bart? Homer: New glasses? Marge: No...he looks like something might be disturbing him. Homer: Probably misses his old glasses. Marge: I guess we could get more involved in Bart's activities but then I'd be afraid of smothering him. Homer: Yeah, and then we'd get the chair. Marge: That's not what I meant. Homer: It was, Marge, admit it.
July 25, 201411 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) HE'S GREAT LOL You should have changed the quote to read "He's not just good."
July 26, 201411 yr Author Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 6m Double to left-center for Tyler Flowers (3-for-5), who is 12 for last 23. Homer (tonight), five doubles during that stretch.
July 26, 201411 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) That's 7 XBH in 10 games after having just 10 in his previous 75. Do you believe in magic ? If this thread wasn't already started I would call it " Tyler Flowers and Sorcerers Spectacles" and/or the Great Goggles debate. Edited July 26, 201411 yr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
July 26, 201411 yr What about the start of the year when he was hitting everything? How the f*** did he do that if he couldn't even see?
July 26, 201411 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) .387 in 31 ABs since he started using the glasses QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) That's 7 XBH in 10 games after having just 10 in his previous 75. QUOTE (MAX @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:51 AM) What about the start of the year when he was hitting everything? How the f*** did he do that if he couldn't even see? Just focus on the strikeouts. Seriously, it's the only way he's really going to seriously improve, cutting down on those.

This just is not how baseball works. If tyler flowers strikes out in >1/3 of his PA's like he has been all season there is just no way he's going to hit better than the low .200's unless he hits 40 home runs.
July 26, 201411 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) This just is not how baseball works. If tyler flowers strikes out in >1/3 of his PA's like he has been all season there is just no way he's going to hit better than the low .200's unless he hits 40 home runs. But if you read my post, saying he'll strike out 1/3 of time means he'll be hitting .666!! Really though I was obviously over exaggerating a bit there. His strike outs have been down, yes, but I just wanna see him continue to barrel the ball up, that's what I care about. It's more fun to look at his 7 XBH in this era of magical glasses than it is to look at his 7 Ks Hey would ya look at that, another fun stat to throw out there. Edited July 26, 201411 yr by scs787
July 26, 201411 yr When he was hot, he was carrying a near-40% K rate. That requires you to be extremely successful (read: lucky) on the balls you put in play to remain serviceable, and that's assuming that the reason you're striking out is unrelated to your ability to make solid contact Edited July 26, 201411 yr by Jake
July 27, 201411 yr Tylers magic has been there all season, he's just now using it for offense. Sox are 8 games above .500 in games Tyler is the catcher.
July 27, 201411 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Tylers magic has been there all season, he's just now using it for offense. Sox are 8 games above .500 in games Tyler is the catcher. So we're 11 games under .500 with Nieto as catcher? That can't be right.
