November 13, 201411 yr Next Thursday is the deadline to protect players from the Rule V draft. Who is eligible to be had in the Rule V draft for the Sox and who do you guys think will be protected? Sox current 40 man roster is at 36 right now.
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:25 AM) Next Thursday is the deadline to protect players from the Rule V draft. Who is eligible to be had in the Rule V draft for the Sox and who do you guys think will be protected? Sox current 40 man roster is at 36 right now. imo I can see that drop to 34 depending on how the sox brass feel about some prospect. i am looking at some pitchers i am intrigue by.
November 13, 201411 yr Author Players that I think will be out righted off the 40 man: Ronald Belisario Raul Fernandez Jared Mitchell
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) Players that I think will be out righted off the 40 man: Ronald Belisario Raul Fernandez Jared Mitchell for some reason the sox still think they have some value, Mitchell and Thompson.
November 13, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) The first question is who do we have to add or risk losing to Rule 5? Well that was my question, who's eligible for the rule 5 draft that we would need to protect? Isn't Ravelo and Montas eligible?
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Players that I think will be out righted off the 40 man: Ronald Belisario Raul Fernandez Jared Mitchell I don't think they let Fernandez go. Ravelo, Jaye, Montas, Rondon, and Saladino will be added.
November 13, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) I don't think they let Fernandez go. Ravelo, Jaye, Montas, Rondon, and Saladino will be added. No way they add Jaye. He hasn't proved himself above AA yet. Saladino is interesting, but I don't think we have to worry about him because of his injury.
November 13, 201411 yr The only one of those that should be considered would be Ravelo, possibly. I wouldn't put Montas or Rondon there unless you had no choice, which I don't think is the case yet. Same with Anderson.
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) The only one of those that should be considered would be Ravelo, possibly. I wouldn't put Montas or Rondon there unless you had no choice, which I don't think is the case yet. Same with Anderson. Montas and Rondon have to go on or they will be exposed to the rule V draft. Saladino would have already been on if not for his injury.
November 13, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Montas and Rondon have to go on or they will be exposed to the rule V draft. Saladino would have already been on if not for his injury. I agree that Montas should go on because someone would use him as a bullpen piece in my opinion. But, I think there is no way someone picks up Rondon.
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) I agree that Montas should go on because someone would use him as a bullpen piece in my opinion. But, I think there is no way someone picks up Rondon. The fact that Brendan Ryan still has a job proves otherwise
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) The fact that Brendan Ryan still has a job proves otherwise or Jose Igelsias.
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 12:33 AM) or Jose Igelsias. Maybe if Leury Garcia.. I don't think Rondon could be much worse.
November 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 04:48 AM) I agree that Montas should go on because someone would use him as a bullpen piece in my opinion. But, I think there is no way someone picks up Rondon. too much of a gamble.
November 19, 201411 yr Author Should be seeing some moves today, as the deadline for adding players to protect them from the rule 5 draft is tomorrow.
November 19, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) The only one of those that should be considered would be Ravelo, possibly. I wouldn't put Montas or Rondon there unless you had no choice, which I don't think is the case yet. Same with Anderson. Francisco Montas is going to be a top 5 prospect in the White Sox system and there are going to be some publications who list him as a top 100 prospect in the game. If you don't think someone would stash him in the bullpen for a year (or outright convert him to a reliever) to have a chance at that arm, you are mistaken. Rondon is also talented enough that there's no reason to risk losing him.
November 19, 201411 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) Francisco Montas is going to be a top 5 prospect in the White Sox system and there are going to be some publications who list him as a top 100 prospect in the game. If you don't think someone would stash him in the bullpen for a year (or outright convert him to a reliever) to have a chance at that arm, you are mistaken. Rondon is also talented enough that there's no reason to risk losing him. I agree. If Montas has to be on the 40, he will be on the 40. With all the hype, there is no way he wouldn't be picked in the rule 5. Probably first.
There isn't any doubt in my mind that Montas could pitch in the Sox bullpen today. With that in mind, there is zero chance he is left off of the 40 man roster, if it means he gets exposed to the Rule 5.
November 19, 201411 yr Then there are Wilkins and Kev Smith. They will prob both be on the 40 man tomorrow. Smith is a tough decision, tho.
November 19, 201411 yr QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) Then there are Wilkins and Kev Smith. They will prob both be on the 40 man tomorrow. Smith is a tough decision, tho. Wilkins is already on the 40. He was called up in Sept.
November 19, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Wilkins is already on the 40. He was called up in Sept. Right. What I meant was that he will prob stay there. And, Smith promoted, possibly.
November 19, 201411 yr I know there are a couple more weeks before the arbitration tender deadline, but there's no reason Belisario can't be yanked off the 40 right now to make room if necessary. I could also see Mitchell getting booted if a spot is needed, and I won't cry if Wilkins and/or Phegley are gone either.
November 19, 201411 yr 40 man currently at 37 with the addition of Duke. Guys who I think will get outrighted/DFA'd off the 40 man: LGarcia, Wilkins Guys who I would outright/DFA: Belisario, LGarcia, Wilkins, Mitchell Guys who I think they will protect: Montas, Thompson, Bassitt, Ravelo (gets to 39) Guys I'd protect: Montas, Thompson, Smith, Bassitt, Ravelo, Rondon (gets to 39) We'll see how grossly off I am.
