I watch very little Virginia basketball but how did they win the ACC?

Looking at their schedule, their best win was Notre Dame. Sort of a weak conference schedule.

Anderson was a much better player before his injury, and yeah, not having to play Duke, ND or Louisville twice helped.

Anderson being hurt and just playing a bad game. UVA got their wins by clamping down on defense and playing smart ball offensively. They did neither as they got bounced. It happens in single elimination.

You could see this was a bad match up for UVA from a mile away. Their best player was coming off an injury and Izzo has had a lot of success against Bennett style basketball.

I think the Big Ten also ended up being a bit better than people thought as well.

Pitino really is great isnt he

Izzo is too!

I hate MSU basketball but it's amazing Izzo has this team in the Elite 8.

Yep, every year MSU gets written off, and somehow he pulls them together at tourney time....like Alford with UCLA.

His recruiting has fallen off a bit, but they do have that one McDonald's All-American coming in.

Basically, OU reached their apex as a Sweet 16 team...they were a dominating point guard or center away from being a next level team. Just missed way too many shots in the second half, and MSU capitalized on the open door...Trice, Valentine and Dawson make a nice core, and Schilling's come a lot way defensively.

Yeah, incredible job. This is a remarkably unimpressive team and yet he has them in the Final 4. Might be his best coaching job.

His teams get to the tournament, and they just want it so much more every single game.

That MSU vs Louisville game was great. Both teams fought so hard, and then watching the Izzo vs Petino chess match... It was all a thing of beauty.

He was trying to be careful with his wording, but he basically said this was his favorite team/season because of all the struggles, doubts, being written off and underestimated...
