I definitely know who he is now

His FIP is currently -0.27. NEGATIVE 0.27. He's so good that he broke the formula that calculates FIP.

If he does this all year, it will be the first time I've ever thought paying a ton of money for a closer was worth it. Our bullpen was a disaster all year last year. It's been lockdown with Duke and Roberts at 8 and 9 (in a small sample, albeit). I remember we blew many games in the late innings last year, especially early on. Huge difference when you can hand off a lead to your bullpen and count on them to lock it down. Remedy for a successful season.

His stuff is insane. He was well worth the money the Sox paid him.

He'll be worth every penny. It's a breath of fresh air to have a guy that can come in and lock it down. He'll blow a couple but he should have a lot of saves this season with his awesome command.

an all new philosophical approach by the front office. i like it.

He obviously isn't always going to be as good as he has been the last 3 outings, but he's been pretty dominating most of his career. Considering money is no object, it is surprising the Yankees let him go, even with some of the talent they have in the bullpen for the late innings. He is used to pitching in a bandbox.

NY wasn't involved in the final bidding. Houston outbid us, and he chose Chicago.

The line score from the pen yesterday jumps off the page.

Combined innings 7, 8, & 9, Jennings, Duke, Robertson:

3.0 IP 0 R 0 ER 0 H 1 BB 8 K

That's what wins are made from my friends.

If I didn't know any better, I would've thought that those stats came from the Royals bullpen.

Why didnt the Yankees keep him? It seems like he would have been the perfect transition into another good run of a closer post-Rivera.

They thought they could get the same type of reliever in Miller, for cheaper, plus pick up a draft pick./

They also have Betances, but a 7th, 8th ,9th with those 3 would be pretty hard to beat.

I, too, am surprised the Yanks didn't just add 10 million to the total contract offered by whomever. Especially since they wound up giving Andrew Miller (also awesome, don't get me wrong) almost as much.

Not only that but they had Dellin Betances throwing up one of the all-time ridiculous reliever seasons last year. Unfortunately he's struggling so far and has lost his mechanics, by reports.

They use Miller-Betances in the bullpen and picked up a 1st round pick in the process. I get it.

Made me laugh with that one.

Didn't they also give up a better 1st round pick signing Miller?

Miller changed teams midseason 2014, so he was ineligible for a QO.

I think its great that he strikes everyone out but cant throw more than 93-94 mph with max effort.

I still don't think paying for a closer is the best idea, but in this case it was the right move. Robertson is legit and for some reason the Sox have been unable to find any bullpen arms out of their minor leagues for the past few seasons, so they had to pay up.

Yeah, the Sox don't usual do this, but in this case, they needed some back end bullpen help badly if they had a chance at doing anything this year. Last year the starters had to pitch 9 inning games. This year they need to go 6 or 7.
