“It’s going to be an interesting experience, a little bit different, but obviously from a safety standpoint it makes sense,” Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. “Also it helps potentially relieve some of the log jams later in the season in terms of makeup games.”

An Orioles spokesman said media and scouts will be allowed to attend, along with an undisclosed number of employees, but areas surrounding the ballpark will be closed to onlookers. The scoreboard will be functioning, but it’s likely many of the other frills of a major-league game won’t be in operation.

The players and GM, at least publicly, seem to be taking the situation in stride.

No need to bar fans from today's game. Just make today bat day and nobody will mess with the fans leaving the park.

I was just thinking, I bet there are a few longtime BAL ST holders who have never missed a game at Camden Yards and are going to miss their first one today.

Rongey just called out the Orioles on Facebook for this entire mess. Said they refused using the nationals park out of pettiness.

He also said the Sox have no say in the matter, it was entirely the Orioles decision. The MLB could override the Orioles but chose not to.

Our new Commish is off to a great start...

It's become a States owner's rights issue. The new commish is off to a great start with the owners, the only people who really matter.

every commish has its own fiefdom, and i guess the owner of Balti is in his back pocket or the other way around.

Ken Rosenthal tweeted today that Baltimore is being disadvantaged by having to play a Double Header later in the year.......

I tweeted at him asking how the hell that is a disadvantage to the Orioles, but not also the White Sox. He agreed with me.

THAT'S RIGHT, b****.

excellent the way did it. put KR right on the hot seat.

good one.

If he is scared to step in and do what is right, the game of baseball is in trouble.

it is a heavy mantle to wear, but if he is afraid to make the gusty move, then why did he ever thought he can be good at this??

It's pretty interesting that they would rather play 3 home games in Tampa, rather than 40 miles away in DC. Not only could some of your fans still attend the game, but your players could still sleep in their own beds, etc. It's like a toddler not playing with any of his toys at all, instead of sharing them with another kid.

Confirmation: Attendance of today's game will be listed officially as "N/A."

Not playing the games in Baltimore on those days was the right thing to do.

Trying to keep the games in front of home fans is within the scope of right things to do.

The biggest losers are the players and are you really surprised that the owners's interests trumped those of the workers?

you will get answers to both side of this question. for me, it was a bad thing to do, unless requested by the city of Balt to reconsider and close down the game.

for me, f*** it. play the game, get a second unit of police and military, make a public announcement of any rioters will be arrested and if necessary by force and take back the streets.

let the peaceful protesters be in a area with the ministers and politicians with some meditation group and have the news there to record the whole peaceful talks.

yeah it will be good tv to record the other rioters but make that a no fly zone and arrest any who goes there.

f*** being the nice people. enuf is enuf.

The good of the game should be the #1 interest for the Commish. If he isn't doing that, he is doing it wrong. The way they did it still ended up with games leaving Baltimore, so what did they accomplish? Oh yeah, they hurt two baseball teams for the sake of a grudge. Great work baseball! Way to have those priorities in order!

I share your outrage. This thing has been bungled and it's the Sox that are most screwed by it.

Sid note, today's game is an absolute must-watch.

The 5/27 game in Toronto has been changed to 11:37am because the White Sox are traveling to Baltimore after the game.

Not sure if that's a scheduling rule, or if the Jays are being cool. Either way, that's a good thing for the Sox.

How did you see the players getting to the game? Heavily armed escorts? Have them just get there? I'm not certain the players wanted to be in that area.

You are investing millions of dollars to have a baseball game played? I'm thinking the Baltimore PD where already spread pretty thin without adding a big gathering of people.

Benefits Toronto greatly for the White Sox to not suck....although not certain this will do any good.

The Orioles doubleheader next Thursday was changed to a noon start, central.

The forecast right now says 90 and sunny.

Looks like they'll be dodging rain in Baltimore on Thursday. Could be a long day.
