Former #Dodgers P and current #WhiteSox minor leaguer Javy Guerra suspended 50 games (drugs of abuse).

Title makes no sense.. drugs of abuse? Or abuse of drugs? :)

From the Joint Drug Agreement:

2. PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES

All Players shall be prohibited from using, possessing, selling, facilitating the sale of, distributing, or facilitating the distribution of any Drug of Abuse, Performance Enhancing Substance, Stimulant and /or DHEA (collectively referred to as “Prohibited Substances”).

A. Drugs of Abuse

Any and all drugs or substances included on Schedules I and II of the Code of Federal Regulations’ Schedule of Controlled Substances (“Schedule I or Schedule II”), as amended from time to time, shall be considered Drugs of Abuse covered by the Program; provided, however, that the drugs and substances defined as Stimulants in Section 2.C below shall be treated as Stimulants rather than as Drugs of Abuse where expressly indicated in the Program. The following substances and their analogs are covered by the Program as Drugs of Abuse, their Schedule classification notwithstanding:

1. Natural Cannabinoids (e.g., THC, Hashish and Marijuana)

2. Synthetic THC and Cannabimimetics (e.g., K2 and Spice)

3. Cocaine

4. LSD

5. Opiates (e.g., Oxycodone, Heroin, Codeine, and Morphine)

6. MDMA(Ecstasy)

7. GHB

8. Phencyclidine(PCP)

This is almost always pot or cocaine right? I can't imagine anything else being abused without someone catching on quick.

Anyways, bad habit for a guy on the outs to develop.

Yogi wrote it.

Wow. Marijuana is considered a drug of abuse. That is insane.

It is because of it's addictive properties.

You can get suspended for smoking weed? How is half of the league not suspended then...?

You don't get suspended for smoking weed. You get suspended for getting caught smoking weed.

Can Rockies players get suspended for smoking dope? Its f***ing legal in their own howntown.

Can't tell if you are joking or not.

I believe so. It's part of their contract with the CBA. Their are plenty of examples of this in drug policies. For example, caffeine is banned during many international competitions such as the World Cup events and the Olympics.

It's not really legal since it's a federal crime

Smoking pot is not a federal crime. Possessing, cultivating, and distributing pot are.

I'm not. I believe it's considered a drug of abuse due to it's addictuve properties.

Baseball put it on the list due to the number of players who use it and it's health hazzards it imposes with regular use. Guys like Darryl Kyle who die from heart attacks in their 30s really shook up baseball.

How do you smoke pot without possessing it? Does the joint suspend itself in midair while you puff on it?

Makes you wonder why alcohol wouldn't be included. I think the deciding factor was legality.

I think the point is you won't get arrested for testing positive with marijuana, but if you have some of it on you, or are growing it in your garage...

That may be part of it. But baseball put it in the CBA specifically. They aren't required to test for it due to its legality. The NBA doesn't.

Absolutely. Just like they could get in trouble for drinking on the job.
