Melky's Celebration Thing..

Featured Replies

I love it.

All of our players do the stir the drink thing. I guess Melky adds his own little thing at the end.

...utter contempt for the integrity of the game.

Big fan, eh?

Daggum whippersnappers.

I like it. It's about the only enjoyable thing I've had all year.

Craig Biggio is what? Top 5 all time in doubles? How many times do you remember him showboating after hitting one? Zero. Because he has too much RESPECT for the GAME. That's why he's in the hall of fame and Melky is a roided up clown.

1. Biggio isn't in the hall of fame because he didn't showboat

2. If you're gonna hate on Melky for showboating, then hate on our whole team, because they all do it.

Boy, I laughed aloud at the first post because I assumed it was satire.

Then I laughed aloud at the second post because it was ridiculous.

"Gritty spark plug" These are the first 3 words of Craig Biggio's HOF plaque inscription, why? Because he took the game seriously, showed up to work everyday ready to give his all for the TEAM and the GAME, gritty spark plugs don't stir imaginary pansy drinks they just swat two baggers every f***ing day with their head down, never looking for extra attention.

And to your second point: Melky's the only one who makes a spectacle of himself while stirring the drink. The others do it with far more class.

I don't think it's so much celebrating as it is trying to encourage the other guys. But either way, it isn't nearly as bad as the celebrating in basketball and especially football. Basketball players celebrate their 3 point shots. They celebrate dunk's as if they're Goliath or as if it's the first time they ever dunked. Football players celebrate every good run, every nice catch, every touchdown. The way sacks are celebrated is clownish.

a good point. football and basketball players are very me first, never looking out for team, just want commercials. a really good post.

The game is meant to be fun and for the players to have fun. It's a team sport and if it is something that brings them together then so be it.

Except when it's your job, then you need to be professional.

I don't really see it as showboating all that much, especially since he's always looking at his teammates when he does it. The stir the drink thing has been a nice little team bonding thing, and it's fostered camaraderie in the team. I like it. Your "integrity of the game" nonsense is a complete overreaction.

Yeah, this guy needs to relax!

we ask the players to treat this profession as more than just a $$-centered business

fun & celebrating? then we reprimand them for it.

I never had a problem with buehrle saying he'd play for the Cardinals. be honest & be yourself, whatever it is.

It's still a game. Almost every team does something when they get a hit. Did it in college as well. It's a game, games are fun to play.

You hit the nail on the head. It's a total contradiction. Seemingly, millions of meatballs are happy with this bit of cognitive dissonance.

This is a game. There is 162 of them. Have fun.

You guys are getting trolled

He's simply saying "Stir it. I see you. Superman. Iron Man." Cobb used to do the same thing but with different superheroes. And he was grittier than Biggio.
