I have that same feeling.

I'd much rather take a chance on Lawrie remembering how to field again. He had been a strong defensive player until last year. It just seemed like him and Semien were in such a funk defensively.

everybody's got an appropriate value to them. CarGo is better than Avi, I will admit that. Depends what they'd have to give. I like Upton and patchwork the rest. I don't want to trade Quintana or Anderson.

So you want to give Upton 5 years $120? Or some crazy deal like that? I didn't say trade Quintana or Anderson for him.

I'm on the Lawrie bandwagon right now. Took a little bit but I'm on it pending the cost.

Ideally, I'd love to see the Sox get away with trading Sanchez/Danish for him and giving Johnson the chance to play 2nd base. That would be the best chance at possible difference makers on the infield for the future.

3B is the toughest to fill. I'd punt on it. Maybe a platoon with Olt or this Korean guy....We need 6 new position players, something has to give.

I'm hoping for Frazier

Olt? Really?

Thing is, if you go all out and trade the farm for Frazier, then you better be willing to spend on more upgrades as well. It makes no sense to have Sale/Q/Abreu/Frazier the next two years if you're surrounding them with junk (outside of Eaton and Rodon).

He's expensive it sounds like

Why would the Sox want those 2?

Dietrich's not a 3B. yea, maybe he improves. Avi, Sanchez and Micah could too (and the latter 2 are already stellar defensively).

Defense has long been a huge albatross on the Sox

On other matters:

Lawrie's no better than average. Micah would be a fair deal for him, especially as Robbie doesn't know how to use him.

Cargo be just a ridiculous trade. $20 mill a year, 2 year rent, heavily stacked Coors field stats, low OBP, lots of Ks.

Sox need to build, not wish-cast.

Average is fine, if the Sox could get 9 average position players that'd probably be enough with our pitching. We need more 2 WAR players, as even just that would be a big upgrade for several positions. Not sure why you think Robin didn't know how to use Micah, he wasn't given much of a chance to do it, and it's not like Micah gave him much of a choice with his horrendous defense. He also started a bunch if games in April when he was up, some posters put the blame on Robin for the strangest things.

I said I'm totally giving up on 3B. maybe he could hit .220 and 20 with decent defense. not that far off Lawrie really.

I've consistently said what I would do.

Gotten a lot of bashing for it.

Here you go:

Build with youth.

Not trade for these over-priced, over-rated "proven" veterans.

Too many holes to try to win in 2016.

But, if we must have a "star" I'd go with Upton, although I wish he didn't have a QO attached. Wish we hadn't wasted resources on Melky when Upton was up the next year.

I'm fine with Lawrie - trade Micah for him. I think I said that. He's passable and passable at 3B would help a lot. Could improve. (but I know the Sox when it comes to dealing with Beane: they fall all over themselves trying to impress Sir Billy, and it will be Micah and Montas and an A ball prospect thrown in, which would be nuts).

Find a different/better young 3B. Trade EJ or Montas for him.

Trade one of Sale, Q , Eaton to plug 2-4 holes with good young talent.

Play both Trayce and Sanchez this year. A lot. They should be starters.

If we must trade prospects, try to do it with 2nd and 3rd tier prospects: Saladino, Beck, Danish. Then the Johnsons, May. Leave the A ball prospects alone...some of those guys are going to blast; don't know which one will. But keep them.

You are consistently bashed because you bash ideas and you rarely present an idea, you just present an outline. Trade one of sale q or eaton just for good young talent. No names, no teams, just good young talent. Let's go ahead and find that good young talent tree and shake it a little bit.

Then you want to ditch one of the lone bright spots of the offense in Eaton and replace him with player in Thompson who hasn't proved he can play at a high level at literally every level he has played at.

It makes little sense and all you do is b**** about people wanting players that have actually proven it at the major league level for players like Thompson.

Except for the huge difference in offensive value...

Who I want in a perfect world - Nolan Arenado

Who I think they might trade for if they decide to go "all in" - Todd Frazier

Who they would most likely trade for if they are going to make a deal - Brett Lawrie

Who will most likely be the third baseman on Opening Day - Mike Olt or Tyler Saladino

I think there's a 0% chance Olt or Saladino is the 3B next season. I think he's penciled in at SS to bridge the gap for Timmy.

I think there's a better chance of one of us starting at 3rd base next year than Mike Olt. Rick Hahn isnt that stupid.

I never understood why people bash people for their ideas on here unless it's just down right terrible. Even if it's unrealistic, I like seeing ideas.

I've never played organized baseball and I have a better chance of starting next season at third  ok maybe not but Mike frickin Olt is not our 3B next season

Hopefully this situation gets sorted out next week at the winter meetings. Lawrie or Frazier would be a good start to helping this lineup and defense.

I'm of the new opinion that adding carGo to the deal might actually make Arenado easier to trade for. Relieving COL of the $50M is worth a ton.

How crazy would it be if we moved a Quintana package for Arenado and CarGo...lot of people would be mad because they think these guys only hit at Coors

We're not getting Arenado guys.

We know that...or I do. I just had a little fun

Q/ Montas for Arenado/CarGo? :o

Sadly, I just read something recently about how the Rockies view Arenado as the new face of the organization now that Tulo is gone. It's still fun to dream though, right?

We're not getting CarGo unless we give up at least a couple good prospects, and we're not getting Arenado unless we trade Sale or Quintana + the entire farm.
