Strange how people use that when it comes to Fowler, but if it's LaRoche/Dunn/anyone else striking out often, there is no positive.

There seems to be a misconception that the White Sox strike out a lot, when it really isn't true. The Sox are 24th in the Majors in strikeouts since the beginning of 2010. Regardless, how often your offense strikes out doesn't really mean that much. In 2014 the Sox were 5th in the MLB in strikeouts, yet scored more runs than the 2011 team, who were 28th in the MLB in strikeouts (difference of 373 strikeouts between the two teams). That's just one example of course, but there are many.

You know how you could really dampen the blow of losing that comp pick? Use that difference in money between Cespedes and Fowler and combine it with the amount of money you're losing in that comp pick spot and spend it all next J2. Just sayin.

This just reminds me of when I'm purchasing something with my own money. I don't know how many times I've bought the cheaper TV, sweater, etc. for it only to break, sweater to unravel, etc and me regret not buying the better product. Then I'm stuck with a TV that has terrible color or sound for like 3-4 years because I can't afford a good one still cause I spent a decent money on the s***ty one.

 

If you don't get what I'm saying -- it's I don't want a s***ty, Vizio, Fowler. I want a Sony Cespedes. 2 years from now we won't have the money to buy a Cespedes because we are still paying Fowler, and it continues on and on like that.

 

 

It's pretty simple to me...makes more sense to pay Fowler 3/45 instead of Cespedes 4/100 when Cespedes isn't exactly a consistent superstar.

This. A 1-2 punch of those two followed by Abreu, Frazier & maybe LaRoche is still a pretty potent start.

I think they would look at Latos, etc. while keeping Johnson. Lack of starting depth in rotation is scary beyond top 5

That's the most I would assume, especially after Parra deal and the QO factor. With Fowler, I still wonder if he waits a bit longer to see if Soler is dealt.

I'm thinking Fowler will get something like 3/36 or 4/44. He's only 29 so 4 years isn't the scariest thing in the world, but with the money Parra got and Heyward not breaking 200M, I think a lot of these guys are going to get less money than they originally expected.

I am warming up to the idea of signing Fowler despite not liking the idea of losing the comp pick. Essentially the Sox turn Samardzija into Fowler which would help both the offense and defense. According to fangraphs, Fowler played better defense than Eaton in 15' so CF D would be upgraded. Fowler in CF pushes Eaton to LF/RF which should be an upgrade over Melky/Avi. Fowler would provide some LH pop and OBP to a lineup that needs it.

 

Looking at that way, Fowler actually sounds like a good idea.

I would say between 8-10 million, or less than that with big incentives.
