January 14, 201610 yr Because the number of Alexei's on the team must remain at 1. Dont shoot the messenger.
January 14, 201610 yr This guy might be a good possibility for the Sox depending on how much he gets paid.
January 14, 201610 yr Could be an interesting guy to go after. I'd rather the Sox sign him if they pass on Upton/Cespedes. I want nothing to do with Fowler or any of the other remaining 2nd tier OF's.
January 14, 201610 yr Author I mean fits the need, Cuban connection, probably wont require superstar like contract.
January 14, 201610 yr QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) I dunno, dude is already 32 and has never seen major league pitching. 32* *Cuban years
January 15, 201610 yr He's a little guy, who draws a lot of walks, and rarely strikes out. Knowledge of the strike zone and patience at the plate are skills which translate fairly well to higher levels of competition. I wonder how good his defense is in RF.
January 15, 201610 yr QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) Dude has no power. Hard pass. He actually does have some power. If you look at his stats in Cuba, you'll see that he has a substantial number of homers. The season is much shorter there, but there are a few years where he compiled some pretty decent power numbers. He's only 5' 7" but weighs almost 190 pounds. He sounds like a little "fire plug".
January 15, 201610 yr I just checked the stats on Baseball Reference: http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=bell--001ale In his 5 seasons, between the ages of 23 and 27, he hit 87 homers and 89 doubles, in 1,335 at bats. That is a homer every 15 at bats. Over that same period, he also walked considerably more than he struck out. Now, how you translate those numbers to a MLB projection, is another question. January 15, 201610 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) If he just defected, he is months away from being able to sign. Apparently, that is not necessarily the case. He left Cuba legally.

In Puig's breakout season over there, he hit a HR once every 19.2 AB.
January 15, 201610 yr Its hard to translate Cuba numbers to the majors. Dayan lit it up as a 16 year old and it never really carried over outside of the power
February 15, 201610 yr https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/699366856348536832 Good we're looking elsewhere
