Ventura: Saladino has inside track at SS entering spring training, but Sox excited to see Tim Anderson's progress http://cbsloc.al/1SKz0RT

Anderson, 22, hit .312 with five homers, 46 RBIs and a .779 OPS in 125 games at Triple-A Charlotte last season.

I think somebody made a typo.

I think there is zero chance the Sox sign Desmond, which is fine by me btw.

Amen to that.

I really hope Anderson pans out. He just reminds me of the swagger-heavy athletic baseball players I grew up with, with his batting stance, build and speed.

I wouldn't put it at 0. Not sure what I'd put it at but maybe Rabbit can chime in.

Unless it was a short and cheap deal, I would put it at 0.

Just keep in mind that Trayce Thompson was going to get a chance to win the CF job in ST this year, too. Was traded shortly after.

Things can change on a dime.

Are the Sox really open to the idea Anderson opening the season at SS? Because that's what the tone of this thread implies.

I dont think they anticipate that at all but I could see them opening with him if he goes on an absolute tear in ST offensively and defensively combined with Saladino having a very poor Spring.

There is no reason for them to say no to it, even if the odds are small for Anderson in 2016.

I've read a few different things stating there is an outside chance he could start the year with the team.

I'm not too well versed w/ their farm system but from what I've heard, seems like he's still a bit away. Needs time in AAA. We'll see.

Large knock on him at this point is his walk rate. I think the Sox really want to see him against AAA pitchers who are known to throw more off speed and out of zone pitches.

I honestly think he could sign a one year deal with maybe an option or something along those lines.

How long does he have to wait to sign til so the draft pick isn't attached?

"To expect him to make that jump this quickly is a high bar to ask him to clear." Re: Tim Anderson starting at SS.

I've said all offseason, Anderson will get his chance this year if Saladino fails. I'm fine with it and excited to see him.

I would imagine Saladino gets April and May to show what he can do. During that time Anderson will be in Charlotte facing AAA and 4A type pitchers so it should be interesting to see how Anderson handles better pitching.

I believe this is Ventura speaking

"He's (Saladino) probably the favorite to win that job. Tim's going down there to win it. Sanchy is, out of position, but he's competing."

Not exactly optimistic about Sanchez at SS it seems. Who knows, maybe he starts the year in AAA and L. Garcia makes the opening day roster.

Is Sanchez safe as a utility IF?

Shouldn't be if he can't play SS

I'd be stunned if Anderson doesn't start at AAA. I expect Saladino to start the year at SS. How he does over the course of the beginning of the season and Tim does as AAA will determine the position late in the season.

Probably fine to give the starter a day of on occasion but not really in the competition for the starter.
