  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) So young people like cheaters? What's that all about? Young people have no morals or something? I don't get the criticism. Again, I guess I feel honored people know more about my posts than I do. I can't tell you about anybody's posts and you all know what I post? I guess I'm that influential. Very cool. You missed the content of the "old people" post. As far as your posts, let's just say they are memorable.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Oh. I didn't know that. I'll just assume it's a joke, then. I mean I'll feel dirty while cheering for Manny I guess, if we win it all, but it's still wrong to acquire this guy IMO. Maybe this will be good for me and help me be less a Sox/sports fanatic. My team hasn't done something this stupid in a long time. Regardless of how you feel about Manny (I have no problem with him playing here for a month), acquiring the guy is not a "stupid" move. At worst it's a greedy move. And I'm fine with that. If he comes here and helps, great. If he comes here and tanks, oh well. KW wants to win another World Series.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) I hope some people think long and hard before making such posts iike this. People, don't out yourselves as people who condone cheating and all that. Don't make me lose faith in humanity more than I have. My god. Think before you post. CHEATING IS WRONG!!! You're losing it, Greg. Take a deep breath.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Vince's quote was not as harsh as the inane comment he posted. Vince's is considered in the true spirit of competition. You bleed to win! This is a disgraceful day in White Sox history to acquire this guy. Really? So, if the Sox win the division and go onto the playoffs and do well and maybe win the whole thing...and Manny had a hand in it, you would not be happy?
  5. Hopefully the trade rumor is true, and Manny will be here Sunday. As far as Lilly, it would be funny if the Cubs claimed him.
  6. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) kenny is god of waivers??? having team in second place and then bad finish doesn't make you gods lol. A lot teams last year wouldn't even touch Rios contract But look at Rios now. KW took a chance and it paid off.
  7. I would think a deal has been at least discussed if not agreed upon via a "handshake". Let's hope it gets done quickly and Manny is playing soon. I'd love to see him this weekend, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not until early next week.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) It could be worse the Sox could have gotten Lance Berkman. True. The Yankees got screwed there...serves them right!
  9. One has to wonder if the Sox even placed a claim on Manny. All this talk might be a moot point...
  10. Forgive my waiver incompetence, but if an NL team claimed Manny, the Dodgers have to deal with them only, right? Well, deal or no deal.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Nah, its 12:33, we probably won't know anything official till the weekend or possibly till Monday or Tuesday, I thought. How was it with Rios last year? First it was a a team claimed him, then it came out it was the White Sox, not sure how long it took. I thought it was confirmed that it was the Sox rather quickly. The acquisition happened about 2 days later.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) If we don't get him is there anyone else out there we could get? This would be a bummer. A couple guys already cleared waivers (LaRoche for one), but I would imagine KW would have made a claim on someone like that if he was interested. I don't know. It could be another huge letdown.
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Heyman saying multiple teams claimed Manny, it was a fun ride, we're not gonna get him. I would think if multiple teams claimed him, one might have been an NL team. Otherwise, who would have higher dibs in the AL?
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) I've said for a while I dont think the Sox need to add a bat. I'll be honest and say that I wasn't terribly upset that KW didn't pay for a bat at the 7/31 deadline. But, if he can get Manny for next to nothing, I'll be more than happy.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Just pulled my pants back up. Well, leave em unbuttoned. I'm thinking positive. Manny should be a White Sox by Monday
  16. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) An unknown team has claimed Manny Ramirez on waivers, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (on Twitter). http://twitter.com/SPTimesRays/status/22283650927 Hopefully the Sox...
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) Burnett is every bit as bad as Freddy this year. I was looking the stats and realized that Burnett is not much better than Freddy. Burnett has less wins and more losses, but his ERA is slightly better. If the Sox offense shows up tonight and Freddy pitches decent, there's a chance.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) that report makes sense, there's been reports all month both sides are flat out done with each other. I wonder if he's even saying that he won't ask for an extension in a trade? That's what I first took from it, but maybe it was just in reference to the Dodgers. On a side note, one baseball figurehead said that Manny might be in the market for $6 or $7 million next year as a DH. Think he'd be worth that in a Sox uniform?
  19. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) When I was watching the wrap-up on MLB Network Wednesday night, they said the Sox had already claimed Hoffman. I scrambled to find anything and I still haven't, and they never corrected themselves. I don't know what the deal is with that. From the rumblings I heard, the Sox never confirmed they claimed him, but apparently the Brewers wouldn't deal him...I wonder if Hoffman nixed it if he has a NTC.
  20. Feel bad for Strasburg, but not necessarily for Rizzo. The Nationals hopes for 2011 have all but vanished...especially if Dunn leaves.
  21. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) hawpe to rays per rosenthal Interesting...
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) I was completely joking about that scenario. I figure as much...but there's always wishful thinking. Maybe Manny would come play for free if JR let him keep his hair...
  23. Rosenthal reporting via Twitter that Manny is NOT asking for an extension.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) Has there ever been a scenario where a guy just got up and left town and went to the team he wanted to play for and just started playing for free? I doubt it, and I wouldn't expect Manny to be the first to ever do that.
  25. Bullpen arm, I assume? I wonder who they could be targeting? Could be an interesting weekend...
