  1. Wow. 17 replies on a game thread. Is that a record? Well, the win guarantees a winning season.

    QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 24, 2010 -> 06:48 AM) Yeah Rafi had some great lines in The League. "Sometimes when I puke I s***."

    I thought The Office was pretty good. It's still not as good as it has been, but the season premiere was better than most of last season. The League was great last night. "I'm not going to forrage through my feces like a racoon!"
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) Grover Cleveland Steamer Winner
  5. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Well I guess if one of his players getting hit in the FACE isn't enough to call for it, what is? LOL. Then again, I can't remember if we were winning or losing at that point. I HAVE to believe if we had been up a few runs in that Minny game, Young would have been DRILLED after what happened with him and AJ. What really sucked was that it led to a 3-run inning. I was surprised they didn't wait until Young was up (I think he was 2nd up).
  6. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Was there retaliation after that??? I honestly don't remember. Yeah, the soft-tossing Buehrle hit the first batter in the upper arm.
  7. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) LOL. And I thought I was cold! Yeah, I cringed a bit, too.
  8. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Seriously? It was widespread. People were fed up with Ozzie's being overly focused on payback. Remember Sean Casey? I think it was around that period of time. I actually remember that. What pitcher did he publicly call out for not throwing at a batter? Was it Richard? Anyway, he went from that to where he seemed to just roll over...at least until Konerko got hit in the face.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) 1.) He was a damn popular shortstop here as well. Both papers called him the face of the White Sox and one of the most popular figures in Chicago. Slam dunk for greg. 2.) Both papers said it. Read their takes on it. I hope Ozzie does go and will laugh at all of you second guessing our new manager's moves every game. Cause that's what Soxtalk does now. The posters freak out over all the moves during games. And guess what, the new manager's moves are going to drive you just as wild. I will enjoy watching you all implode. But hey, you'll just want the next guy fired immediately as well. That's why I say welcome to the revolving door of managers again. Ozzie was our best manager in Sox history ... period. Since Tony LaRussa (1986), the Sox have had 6 managers. Not exactly a revolving door. Ozzie is the only one to bring a WS title to the team, but it wasn't all him. Not by a long shot. The way that team clicked early in the year and in the playoffs, many managers could have helmed that ship. And as far as your comment about laughing at the rest of us when we second guess the next manager, of course we will second guess some moves. I'm sure you will, too. You can't tell me that you approved of every move and decision Ozzie made...or can you?

    QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) i dont know for sure who it was (obviously) but i have a feeling Good points. I forgot about that.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Ha, just found this quote in the other newspaper, sun times, bout ozzie Guillen is the most popular man in a Sox jersey in town. He might be the most popular sports figure in town. He helps put butts in seats. And he's a good manager. How would not signing him to a new contract help the organization? Yes! That Morrissee colun was excellent and the correct take on this IMO. I disagree. Unless by popular he means well-known, and that would be only because of the soap opera he currently stars in. Konerko is the face of this team right now, IMO. Does Ozzie really help put butts it seats? Really? People don't go to a Sox game to see Ozzie (unless all they ever want to see is him getting thrown out of changing pitchers).
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) Ha, most of "the city" agrees with me, not Saxtalk. Read that story over and over how much Guillen is beloved. Ozzie rocks. Also, nice way for Kenny to throw in his own ego about how are he is working. Poor, poor KW who put this piece of s*** second half product on the field. Hope you can sleep a few hours, Kenny, staying up all night. "No, not for me," Williams said. "I won't rule that out one day. My competitiveness to win a world championship in Chicago has not waned one bit. The weariness from lack of sleep and trying to figure out how to right the ship, that's exhausting, yes. But I'm not tired of my job here." I don't think that most of the city agrees with you. Nor do I think the majority of the city wants Ozzie gone. The majority of the city probably doesn't care. I do think that SoxTalk is a decent glimpse at Sox fans as a whole. There are those who love him, those who want him gone, and those that are luke warm on him. And as far as KW putting out a POS second half team, that's not a true statement. The team really didn't look a lot different between the 1st and 2nd halves. What happened was what almost always happens: The team played poorly in the second half. I'm not saying it was all Ozzie's fault, but it definitely wasn't all KW's fault.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) Sox officially pick up Thornton's option for 2011 - $3M.

    Watched The Event last night. I liked it. I knew there was going to a sci-fi aspect to it, so I wasn't surprised. I hope it makes it and is done better than Flash Forward.

    QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) Terriers has got me hooked. the ending of last night's show was very very interesting. Yeah, what the hell happened at the end? Who was that guy in the background?

    QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) I got into SOA early last season and wow can I get lost some times. Never knew there was as deep an Irish connection there. The Cleaner was as creepy as they get. Did you notice that his name was Bachman? Clever.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Well then they still should be thrilled. Why wouldn't you want Ozzie Guillen? He has a WS title at a young age. Good manager. Fun guy. He won't be as out of control media wise down there. Different venues. He has more passion up here cause he is a White Sox. That's who he is. Down there he'll be just another guy. Probably good for his health in the long run. You know, a change of venue for Ozzie would probably be good for him. His managing style may work better in Florida, and maybe he won't rub as many people the wrong way. If he does make his way down south, he'll take his family circus with him. Let's hope for the Marlins' sake that he and his sons don't do battle with their GM.
  19. I don't think I've ever seen the word "fluke" used so often. The 2005 team was quite good, and they were almost completely dominant in the playoffs. But everything for that team clicked at the same time. Maybe not a fluke by definition, but it wasn't just the fact that the team was better than every other team.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) What fans? They should be thrilled. Don't a lot of Chicago retirees live down there anyway? They'll love him. Hope we don't face them in the WS. There are plenty of Florida Marlins fans. True, a lot of people in Florida are transplants, but they are from all over, not just Chicago.
  21. We can only hope. Whether or not Ozzie is as bad a manager as he seems sometimes, the BS with him and his family got very old this season.
  22. Can we get three more wins this year...you know, just to have a winning season?
  23. hogan873 replied to Steve9347's topic in SLaM
    SOA was good again last night.
  24. What a roller coaster of a season. Overall it was disappointing, but we had a good time in June and July. I'm hoping for major changes in the off season. I really thought this season would come down to the last week, but the last 8 games have been an utter collapse. It's strange. It's sad and depressing, but there's also a bit of relief. I wouldn't feel that way had the Sox put up a fight over the past two weeks. But with the way they played, there was never a chance of making it.
