  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Well crap, I thought he was making $3M for some reason. I'll edit - I suspect they offer him in the vicinity of $3M for a year, or maybe $2M and a team option at $3M, or the like. I would think 2 years/$6 million might get the job done.
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) That doesn't mean he will stay healthy. Peavy is just injury prone. Actually he's not. He hurt his ankle running bases, not pitching. Granted his injury this year was severe, but that doesn't make him injury-prone.
  3. Absolutely the kids come first. I wouldn't hesistate to put a dog to sleep that attacked my kids.
  4. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) I agree completely. We've got a chance, with two more games against the Red Sox, to finish as the 5th best team in the AL. Better to try to win out than give up. I hadn't thought about that. I know it doesn't mean anything in the long run but it is encouraging...and frustrating considering how things started.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) I don't see any reason to think that that is probable. Why not? Have you heard something lately? Last I heard he would be ready for ST.
  6. I agree money is the big issue for 2011. Buehrle, Peavy, Jackson, Floyd, and Danks would account for about $47 million next year. Two of our three outfielders account for another $20.5 million. Teahen (who will most likely end up being an expensive bench/fill-in guy), Alexei, and Beckham make up another $6.5 million. Linebrink and Thornton are another $8.5 million, and if they re-signed Putz he'd be another $4 million or so. Adding in a few million here and there for Vizquel (maybe), Jones (maybe), etc. you're looking at about $90 million. Holes to fill would be 1st base, DH, and catcher. How much would the Sox be willing to spend for those spots? Without some trades being made to free up salary, you might be looking at upwards of $110 million. I'm thinking that some cost is going to be sacrificed at 1st, DH, or C. I'd like to see Konerko back and VMart at C, but that's easily $20 million right there. AJ would be a cheaper option at C, and I'd be okay with that in a one year deal. No matter what, I think it's going to be a busy off season. Let's hope it's a good one.
  7. I realize that this thread was started in jest, but I am looking forward to 2011. I'm hoping for a busy off-season, and solidifying the DH spot should be one of the top priorities. I don't see the Sox signing Manny, but you never know. A one year incentive-laden deal might be just the thing he (and the Sox) would need. If Peavy is healthy, the Sox should have a pretty good starting rotation, albeit an expensive one. And of course right field is a bit of a concern.
  8. Purposely skipping the letter N?

Anybody watch No Ordinary Family last night. I DVR'd it to give it a shot.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:38 AM) Lone Star cancelled, which is really sad because was my favorite new show of the season. I'm glad I didn't start watching it. It's frustrating when they cancel shows that quickly.
  11. What I hope he says is that he's coming back and there is a deal in the works. What I think will happen is that he'll say he's going to test the market but "would like to stay in Chicago". If he does return I hope it's a two year deal with an option, around $10 million a year.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) Konerko isn't good enough to decide who manages him. I'm not saying that that is the case, just theoretically. True. And honestly if Ozzie had decided to depart and Konerko decided to sign elsewhere because of that, I'd have to be a bit concerned about Konerko.
  13. If Ozzie returning brings back Konerko, I'm okay with that. I'd like to see a two or three year deal for him, but if Ozzie isn't extended I wonder of Konerko would opt for just a one year contract.
  14. The Simpsons episode when he gains weight to become "disabled". "Hey fatty, I got a move for you. A Fridge Too Far!"
  15. Really nice to see a Chicago team playing well.
  16. Based on some comments made by Konerko in the past, I wonder if this increases the chances he re-signs with the Sox.
  17. I would hope that there were discussions about 2011 not being like 2010...in all capacities.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Serious Fail That's not a sentence...does it have to be?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Family Guy was surprisingly good last night, even though it wasn't the funniest show of the series's run. The Simpsons made "Running Wilde" look good. I haven't watched the Simpsons in quite a few years. I've seen parts of episodes from the past few years, and they were not funny. That show should have ended about 5 or 7 years ago.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) The Dexter premiere was absolutely fantastic. So was Mad Men last night. I wonder if Joanie actually got the kid taken care of... I don't think so, but that's just my guess. I was surprised at how quickly Campbell gave in to Don and dropped NAA.
  21. Lillibridge has a higher batting average than Manny.
  22. Army of Darkness (This is my boomstick!) Simpsons (Sounds like someone's got a case of the s'posedas) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Are you saying nii to that old woman?)
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Last night had about 5 replies. Don't discount the value of a winning season, Royals/Pirates/Orioles/Nationals fans would be ecstatic! Oh, I know. I'm sure many of us thought there was no chance at a winning season back on May 31. Too bad it doesn't mean anything. Remember back when we were talking about the division being won by the team with 87 or so wins? Damn Minnesota.

Caught up on all the shows on my DVR. I like The Event so far. I hope it doesn't turn into another Flash Forward. Undercovers was good. Fast-paced with great action and better dialogue. Overall it seems pretty light, unlike JJ Abrams other stuff (Lost, Fringe). Speaking of Fringe, great start to the season. I like that they are fleshing out the other universe. Plus, now there are two Anna Torvs!
