  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) This is not overly complicated, it seems to me. Palin's popularity in Alaska has been plummeting. The last thing she wants is to lose an election, or look unpopular. Cutting her losses to protect her image. I suppose there is a chance there is something brewing we don't know of, but, I think the above is more obvious and simple. but even so, at it's face it looks like she's quitting because of investigations and media scrutiny. That effectively ends her chances of ever getting elected to a higher office than governor, though she may be able to go for mayor! This is just the end of a terrible farce we've dealt with for months. edit: seriously, look at her speech: millions of your dollars are being wasted, so I'm quitting, I can do more change from the outside. Bulls***.
  2. from palin's speech: "Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations - such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters' questions." Yup, you nailed all the ethical scandals you were accused of in that paragraph!
  3. it's so much easier to use your current position to gain positive PR/name recognition, however. I don't buy it, at all. I don't think this has anything to do with shoring up more time to run.
  4. from talkingpointsmemo.com "Wow. It just gets better and better. Apparently one of Palin's rationale's for resigning is that she would not stand by while so many taxpayer dollars were being spent investigating her."
  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) By not running and then running for President? It would answer those critics that argue when someone runs for President while holding office, they are cheating their constituents of leadership. She's not just not running, she's resigning. You can just as easily say she is backing out of her commitment to alaskans. Plus she could've tried to accomplish more in a year to stiffen up her policy resume.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) She can create a better base for a Presidential run freed from her role as Governor. I can't think of any examples of this happening though.
  7. Something has to be up, you don't normally leave your current office to gear up for higher office. You merely stop doing your job, but you keep the title!
  8. she didn't answer questions...it's all very weird. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/
  9. I actually liked one of them.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) So? That's not the point. You act like that's a prerequisite for your posts.
  11. A bit concerning, seeing as how the other two are good in-game managers (though I haven't watched a Pineilla team in a while), while Ozzie seems to be a club house manager. I've like how Ozzie seems to know when to put all the crap on himself and off the team, but he leaves a lot to be desired in managing the games. Oddly enough, in the 2005 playoffs I thought he managed it brilliantly but that's probably just because every piece fell into place for 12 games.
  12. About time. At least he gets to use his election funds for those suit allegations.
  13. didn't know that about Rhode Island. Pretty interesting. I'm glad they are doing that. Go politicians, you rock.
  14. first time putting balta on ignore bites me in the ass.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) He's also saying that the affair(s) have gone on since at least 2001. Clearly, they began after Sanford was broken hearted about that Obama dude not being allowed inside the Dem convention in 2000. Everytime anything happens to Obama, good or bad, Sanford's heart just breaks and he seeks the comfort of another woman. awesome
  16. ahh, first time I read this I thought they were flying Bono's aircraft.
  17. Just like I do with popsicles. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,529576,00.html
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) Does Congress have the authority to pass a law putting some sort of time limit on election contesting? I think it would behoove everyone involved if in the future we could do that. I'm not sure I'd support that. This was annoying, but Minnesota took their time, went through the stages of review on many different levels, and feels comfortable with the ruling. Perhaps that's best.
  19. To how much importance do the Iranian people place in how many Americans are watching them die for their cause? Just because coverage will shift does not mean a movement will not occur. The reform party WAS in power just 8 years ago, if Ahmadinejad forces the next election thru corruption, I don't think he can get away with it. To be clear, Honduras is a much different issue. It isn't a grassroots change, it's the military turning on the gov't, as has happened so many times in Latin America, and throughout the world. They don't have much support. But I think now the protesting Iranians are getting marginalized as just being the upper class spoiled college kids. It wasn't just college kids protesting, it was the total youth of Tehran. It's obvious that the country side backs the current administration. But the Iranian people in Tehran and other big cities are quite moderate by middle eastern standards, as we have known for quite a while. And I do believe their cause will win out within ten years. That may not quick enough for some, but for revolutions like this, it's entirely reasonable.
  20. well, maybe if we didn't take Poreda we would've taken Porcello. :?
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) Windy City Thunderbolts. When I worked for the Cougars, they averaged just under 10,000 per game. They draw very well. yeah that doesn't surprise me. It's free parking, too, no? Really cheap for a family to go.
  22. Cougars did a great job when I was a kid at aiming a bunch of marketing at elementary schools. There was a reading program where if you read, like everyday, and marked it on this calendar and had your mom sign it you got a free ticket. Also, being as it was so close we went to a bunch of games when I was young. The grass seats and promotions were fun, I'd recommend it for your nephews. question: Do you think downtimes like this might not affect our local minors as much as people might see them as a cheaper source of entertainment?
  23. I hate that all their restaurants were food court restaurants at any mall in the country.
  24. I went to a game in Anaheim several weeks back. We won. BUt man I've never seen a stadium with less character.
